Akko POV...
"Nice of you to show up Ms. Kagari." Diana greeted with a smirk. "So I take it you learned something new from the case files. It was done with the intent of being found out?" She questioned.
I let out a sigh, I was really hoping Diana would end up getting some alterante assignment.
"Well, thats pretty much what I have inferred but I can't be certain." I replied now walking past her to get to the case scene.
I looked around, neat as could be. Something about this person is that they definitely liked playing around. Either the scene was neat or a complete mess. And today it seemed to be neat. There was never a specific pattern.
"And why would it be our criminal? What gave it away?" I questioned. "Necklace over there." Diana said pointing over to an unlocked glass case with an imitation of the real thing.
"Its fake." I mumbled. "I'm surprised you could tell at first glance." Diana grinned. "First thing I learned from Grandma, she was big on jewels." I sighed. "Oh, thats right, you were named after her right? She was also famous for making the best imitations of the jewels she stole." Barbara said out of nowhere. "How do you know that?" I asked somewhat creeped out.
She frowned and rolled her eyes noticing my discomdort. "I just find your 'clan' interesting." She huffed. Now I was the one to roll my eyes, "Don't call us a 'clan'."
Diana interviened and placed a hand on each on my shoulder. "Don't bicker you two, we are in the middle of a crime scene. And for your information Ms. Kagari, I myself am intrigued with your family history." Diana said. "Everyone is." I mumbled.
"What was that?" Diana asked.
"Nothing, just that those jewels are just cheap copies." I exhaled. She smiled, "I guess you do come in handy Ms. Kagari." Diana said now inspecting the necklace. "What is that supposed to mean?" I asked somewhat insulted. "Dear my, don't sound so offended." She chuckled. "By any chance, do you think you could put a price on this cheap imitation?" Diana then asked.
"May I look at it." I asked.
"Do you really need my permission?" she asked coyly.
I let out a huff and opened the case to grab the imitation. I gave a quick inspection and weighed it. "I can estimate around 900 to 5000 euros." I shrugged. "Give a closer inspection Ms. Kagari, I want you to be sure." Diana huffed. "I need a loupe."
"Here." the shopkeeper I presume said handing over a jewel loupe. I took it and began to give a more profound observation.
The gold itself isn't fake, the real one is supposed to be 23k of pure gold, around 31 euros maybe. This one may be around 12k, estimate about 20 euros. The emeralds themselves wrapped in the gold were around 20,000 euros per carat, the real one had around 18k of real emerald, that would be 360,000 plus the 30 euros of the gold itself. But these emeralds were synthetic, not the real deal but same composition, if its 18k like the original it would be around 3000 euros give or take.
"So our best estimate is 3,000 euros Ms. Kagari?" Diana asked. I looked at her with a perplexed look. "Yeah, how did you know?" I asked. "You said so did you not." She sighed. "Well you were mumbling to yourself I presume." she said with amusement. "Yeah its a habit of Akko's to mutter to herself when she's deep in her train of thought." Barbara grinned. "Wait. I do?" I asked. Both her and Hanna nodded.
"Could one of you look up stores were they sell this necklace in the range of 2000 and 4000 euros." Diana asked.
"Yes of course! We'll gladly do it!" Both Hanna and Barbara gushed. I rolled my eyes at them. "And what will you do?" I asked towards the Cavendish. "I'll look over the rest of the scene." she replied. "How about I accompany you in that." I offered with a forced smile. "My pleasure." she replied, her smile far more natural than mines.
