Glasses

(A/N: Soulmates AU... haven't read much of it since I find the soulmates trope to be meh. Its cute, but not rly my thing. My friend recently got into LWA after she found out I wrote fanfic from this anime, and she really loves the whole soulmates thing and asked me to write this.)

Akko POV...

"Able to see the red sting of fate... woah." I mumbled amazed as I read the description on an item behind the glass counter from the magic item shop cafe. 

"What's the red string of fate?" Sucy asked as she too got close to inspect the item. 

"What!" I exclaimed, "You don't know about the red string?!" I held her by the shoulders and shook her. She glared at me, "What's so surprising? Should I know about it?" she groaned. 

"Its a popular theme, very romantic too," Lotte started, "Everyone supposedly has the red string of fate that is connected to your soulmate." Lotte smiled and blushed, "I can't wait until I find my soulmate." 

"How much for them?" I asked the shopkeeper. 

"Hundred euros." He said. 

I felt my heart sink. I looked over to my friends, they just looked away. 

Some friends I have.

I sighed, and took out my wallet, "Here's all of my month's allowance."

"I can't believe you just threw away your money like that for some toy..." Lotte sighed.

"I can." Sucy responded. 

"Oh come on! Aren't you guys the least bit curious?" I asked. "Plus he gave me a case for the glasses, for free." I grinned victoriously. "They came with the glasses idiot." Sucy replied. 

I frowned, "Let me have this victory." 

I took out the glasses and looked at them more closely. They looked like any normal glasses, oval shaped lenses with thin gold frame around them, they looked incredibly fragile. 

"Honestly I don't think they'll work." Sucy said. 

"What do you mean?!" I exclaimed.

"If they did, wouldn't they be in more of high demand?" she asked "And maybe a bit more expensive." she added. 

I frowned and stuck my tongue out, I didn't want to believe her, but she had a point. If things like these existed, why would it be so cheap... well cheap in general, my friend from back in Japan wore glasses and she always complained about how the cute ones were always so expensive. Always went above 10000 yen. I've never heard Lotte complain about them, but then again, talking about the price of glasses is a weird conversation to have. 

"Well, they look cute, you could use them just because." Lotte said. 

"Why would she wear glasses if she doesn't need them?" Sucy asked.

"A bunch of people wear fake glasses as a form of fashion." Both me and Lotte said. 

"That's stupid." Sucy mumbled. 

"Well whatever!" I exclaimed, "Imma try them out." I shut my eyes closed and put the glasses on, slowly I opened my eyes and looked around. 

"Huh, everything looks the same." I looked all around me but saw no string. I pouted, "Aw, they really don't work." I whined. 

"Of course they didn't, those glasses are fake. No one can know who their soulmate is." Sucy shrugged. I looked at her and saw a red string appear on her chest.
