*This is from Elena Gilbert's POV*
He was going back to her. And he was going to make her fall in love with him again. His search for Katherine hadn't gotten the results he'd wanted. She didn't care about him. Didn't want him. And deep inside, he knew he didn't want her. He had just wanted closure. Wanted to know that the past was the past, and that Elena was the future.
Elena Gilbert. She was the mirror image of Katherine. Both so beautiful, so...special. Yet Elena wasn't all like Katherine. She was kind, honest, brave, loyal and innocent. Whilst Katherine ran away from problems that threatened her life, Elena faced them head on. She was so different from what he knew. She had treated him different from any other woman he'd ever been with. At first, she didn't even give him a second glance. Didn't care about the fact that no woman ever refuses him. She tried to change him too. Elena saw the good in him that even he didn't. That no one else had seen since back in 1864, the year he died, and came alive again. He was now 167 years old, and even finding out his true age didn't make her hate him, didn't make her feel disgusted by him. Why would it? He still looked 21! And he always would.
Damon Salvatore made his way back to Mystic Falls to win Elena Gilbert back. And knowing quite a few generations of Gilberts, he knew enough to know, it wasn't going to be easy.

Damon Salvatore. What can I say about Damon Salvatore?
That name triggers so many memories, so much hurt, so much love, but that's all over now.
At least I thought it was. I spent a year with him, and went through hell being with him. Changing his dark, and sadistic nature to something less horrifying, lying to my friends about him, lying to my family, watching people around me die, and then him walking out on me, just as I'd began to really love him.But that's Damon Salvatore. He always leaves when things get too real for him, because real is scary and love is a frightening concept to him.
But at least through it all, I still managed to keep my friends. Bonnie Bennett is my best friend/sister and a witch, a powerful one at that, Caroline Forbes, who doesn't know anything about the supernatural and Matt Donovan, also oblivious to what I'm calling the 'Real World'.
I was just leaving school with Bonnie, Caroline and Matt. Bonnie had picked me up for school this morning so we had to leave together too. They were all chattering about the Halloween dance, and I was daydreaming about piercing blue eyes. His piercing blue eyes. Sometimes I just can't help torturing myself; I'm a masochist.
"So, Elena, it's a Sadie Hawkins dance, which lucky guy are you asking?" Caroline asked, flipping her blonde curls out of her face, because her hands were busy with all the folders in her arms. Seriously if Caroline took on anymore extra-curricular charity projects, she'd be rivalling Mother Theresa. I think she was picking up more and more charity work to wrangle another win for the Miss Mystic Falls competition this year. Last year, she'd won, but the year before I had, which had made her more competitive."I'm not going." I replied, hoping that would end that conversation. I should've been smart enough to know that this was a conversation with Caroline Forbes about a dance. Of course it wasn't over. With Caroline nothing is ever over, sometimes she'll drop it but eventually she'll bring it back up again.
"You're Queen of the school, the head cheerleader, and you're not going?" Caroline pestered, disbelief plastered on her face. Apparently, the 'Royal Court' have to attend all social events to show the rest of the school the 'high' standards of the school. If I'm honest, the whole 'Royal Court' thing got old for me when people started becoming friends with me for popularity. If I were to walk back into school now, pretty much everyone I walked past would say 'Hello, Elena!' or 'Do you need anything Elena?'. This girl even offered to do my homework for me for life if I let her tag along with me and the girls. High School is a world that I don't understand even though I'm at the top of the social hierarchy.
"As 'Queen', I'm using my power to boycott it." I replied simply.
"Is it because you think that no guy will accept?" Caroline questioned, raising a perfectly shaped blonde eyebrow. Seriously? I'm not being egotisitcal or anything, but I know that most of the guys in school wouldn't say no to a date with Elena Gilbert.
"It's not that. It's just I'm not interested." I say, as we near Bonnie's car.
"You could always ask me Elena. I'd go with you." Matt suggested, his face looking completely innocent, but I knew what he really wanted. He wanted to get back together. Which made me feel absolutely terrible.
I haven't really dated anyone since Damon and I was nervous about reopening the section of my life that was dedicated to Matt. It was like reopening old wounds that were better left scarred.
That was when I saw him. My first thought was that it couldn't possibly be him.
"Hey Bonnie, have I gone crazy or is that Damon Salvatore?" I said, gesturing with my head, trying to not make it obvious I was talking about him, completely forgetting he could hear and see everything I said and did. Bonnie whipped around, and stared. He saw us, flashed his beautiful smile and stood there waiting."Yep, it looks like he's waiting for you too."
Should I go over? Should I not? It probably wouldn't hurt to go over there and merely talk to him, but then again talking to him is how it starts. Then he'll follow you around, making sure he's everywhere you look, so he's always on your mind. Then he worms his way into your life, your heart, and then toys with you. He really had hurt me a lot, but why should I show it? It would give him joy to see that I'd spent the past year moping around, just getting back into the swing of things a couple of months ago, when Jenna and Ric booted me out into the social scene. So I raised my head, tilting my chin up, and looked at Bonnie.
"I'll meet you at your car, Bonnie."
I walked over to him, looking and feeling confident, that I was over him. He just looked so god damn gorgeous though. His dark hair had just been cut from the looks of it, his ice blue eyes glinted with determination, and his face was set in a smug expression, his mouth smirking at me, as I approached and halted a couple of steps away from him. I crossed my arms tightly over my chest, and felt what I can only imagine relief feels like when I saw him checking me out. Why I would be relieved to see that baffles me. I raised an eyebrow at him, then kept a look of indifference as he smirks at me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked."Hello Damon. How are you? Nice to see you again!" How did I know he was going to be sarcastic? Because that's who he is. Who he made me, and I'm barely getting over it. I've still got the sharp wit, and the great comebacks I learned from him. Yet, I was obviously much better at coming up with my own. Being as awesome as I am.
"Hello Damon. How are you? Nice to see you again! What are you doing here?"
"I see you haven't lost your sense of humour," He grinned, taking a step closer to me, causing me to unintentionally take a step back. "I came back because I have some unfinished business."
"Oh? What business?" I questioned, my mind racing through all the possibilites.
"You'll find out." He took another sure step forward. I eliminated the rest of the space, much to his surprise. When we were together before, he had always been the instigator, always the person to start everything and finish it. Well, I wasn't a pushover anymore, and I sure as hell wasn't as weak as I used to be. Dating a vampire, then getting dumped by a vampire really does make you a stronger person, more critical of the world and people around you. I know when someone is BSin' me, because I learned how to BS from Damon, the master himself. And this definitely stank something rotten.
"Why don't you tell me what you're up to? You know you can trust me, Damon, don't you?" I said, using a seductive voice, trying to confuse him so he'd spill."I know I can, but I'm still not telling you." Damon replied, not looking bothered at all by my lame tactic. I sighed in frustration, and turned to walk away. Damon grabbed my wrist and pulled back round to face him.
"Why do you want to know?" He asked.
"If you tell me than I can help you. If you let me help you, you'll get what you want. If you get what you want, you can get the hell outta my life!" I almost yelled.
He seemed taken aback by what I said, but that didn't stop him moving in for a kiss.
