I sat in the living room waiting on Tex. It's been four months since I found out that I was pregnant again. I have not told Tex because I wanted to make sure I kept it past the miscarriage date. I know it was wrong to, and this morning I felt a flutter of kicks. I'm five months along.
Horse shifters are pregnant for as long as a regular horse is. If I shifted, it won't hurt the baby. It's a way we protect ourselves. I saw him walking from his office. He looked uneasy as he made his way to my house. I got up from where I was sitting and went to the door.
I opened it and let him in. "You alright?" He asked. "Yeah. I was waiting until after a certain point to tell you..." I started. "What have you been keeping from me baby?" He asked. I stepped closer to him. Then wrapped my arms around him. I felt horrible for keeping it a secret. "Don't stress baby." He said. "I'm." I tried to keep myself together.
He picked me up and went to the couch to sit down. "Don't hold anything in baby. I want to know what you didn't want to tell me just yet." He said letting me look him in the eyes. "Tex. I am five months pregnant." I said. "I know baby. I was waiting for you to say something." He said.
I probably had a sad look on my face. "Chester can't keep his mouth shut for anything baby." He said. "I've been having the guys slip vitamins into your food so you have the nutrition you need since Chester found out. I was waiting for you to tell me yourself."
I sighed. "Do you want to hear my reaction?" He asked. I nodded. "As soon as Chester left my office after telling me the news, I couldn't contain myself. I spent most of the day and night cleaning up my office after that." He said. I held onto him tighter. "I know why you didn't want to tell me baby. I understand. This should be our living baby." He said.
"Maybe." I said. "He did say it was going to be a premature baby isn't it." He said. I nodded. "I'm not going to put you on bed rest. I do though, want you to rest when you feel tired. I want you to sit down and rest when you need to. Not when you want to. This one need to stay inside as long as it can." He said.
"I know." I said. "Do you want to find out the gender?" I asked. He shook his head. "All foals born, are a surprise until they are born. We just don't need you in horse form when you go into labor." He said. I nodded. He kissed my forehead.
"Come on. It's my turn to cook dinner for you." He said. He set me on my feet before letting me follow him to the kitchen. He handed me the vitamins and I took them. I thought there was something going on with the way the guys looked at me the past few months. Least I'm not being treated like a porcelain doll.
After dinner Tex stuck around and eventually, we ended up in my bed cuddling. "You know I'll be busy a month after this baby is born." He said. I nodded. "If it's born at that time." I said. "We're going to try to get there." He said. I sighed curling up to him.
He held me close as he kissed the top of my head. I fell asleep listening to his heartbeat and welcoming his warmth.
