As I finished up in the garden and locked the gate the same two that have been trying to get into the garden all week tried again. This time one of Xavier's helpers steered them away. One started to pitch a fit about how the gate is always locked. I entered my house before getting a call from Xavier. He was asking for me to come to his office.
I left my house and started walking to his office. I knocked before entering. He yelled out to enter. I opened the door and was about to close it when he said I could leave it open. I then noticed the guy that had followed me, then apparently tackled me before asking to see if I was injured. He had what looked like a bruise on the left side of his face.
I knew I could land a hard hit, not enough though to bruise. He looked kind of surprised to see me. I stepped a little closer. "How is the garden doing?" Xavier asked. "Good. Two of your girls keep trying to break into it after the baskets are full." I said. "I know. I'm posting someone at the gate from now on for those that are pregnant or are starting to show." He said.
"Kind of need more help though." I said. "How so?" He asked. "My mother and I are the only ones picking and it takes us hours to go through it." I said. "I'll see how many of dad's can help out. I know a few of our brothers that stuck around wouldn't mind helping." He said.
"Could you give us a moment?" Xavier asked the guy sitting next to his desk. "Yeah." The guy answered before leaving and closing the door. "Someone is finally persistent enough to want to get to know you." Xavier said. "That guy?" I asked. "Yeah. Did you slap him a week ago?" He asked. "Why?" I asked.
"I know that bruising when I see it." He said. "Ok, he approached me when I didn't want to be." I said. "You might need to start being nice and coming out of hiding when some of these stallions come around." He said. "I'm proving a point." I said. "And that is?" He asked. "I'm not easy to get. If they want me, they have to work for it." I said.
"I need you not to be difficult though." He said. "I'm not difficult. I just like sticking to my own schedule." I said. He scoffed. "Sure." "Do you still need me?" I asked. "Not anymore. Unless your willing to let that guy stay at your place tonight." He said.
"Previous engagement?" I asked. "You know my job." He said. "Yeah. Have fun." I said. I left his office and went back to my house. I walked in and laid out in the floor. The carpet felt good. Tonight I was planning on sleeping under the stars. I ate before going outside. Xavier and the guy were walking along nearing my house.
I waited for them to stop. "Where are you heading?" Xavier asked. "South pasture." I answered. "For how long?" He asked. "All night. There's a meteor shower tonight." I said. "Mind watching him?" He asked. "Long as he stays out of my way." I said. The guy threw his hands up as if saying "I won't."
"Did you already eat?" I asked. "No ma'am. I'm not hungry either." He said. "Might as well start heading that way." I said. "Watch for loose rocks." Xavier yelled. "I will." I told him. "How long will it take us to get there?" The guy asked catching up to me.
"Not long by running." I said. As soon as we hit that gate to the pastures, I shifted and took off. Seconds later a second set of hooves joined mine. I jumped over fallen trees and small shrubs. I jumped the creek and kept going. I only slowed to go up the hill over looking the south pasture.
I stopped then and looked back. "Not a bad run." The guy said. "It never is a bad run." I said. I then started to walk down into the valley. He followed. Once reaching the right spot I decided to lay down. He stayed standing.
He looked around and pretty much stood guard until it was dark. Then he laid down next to me. He sighed and nuzzled at me. I was about to get up when he stopped. I didn't exact know his plan. When the shower started, I didn't pay as much attention to him.
Then when it was over, I got up and went to find a more comfortable spot. He followed. I laid down near some brush and tucked my legs near my body. He looked around before staying standing. I lowered my head and found my position to sleep.
I finally fell asleep and stayed asleep. When I woke up that morning, he was still standing in front of me. He was awake and alert. I went to stand up and he side stepped letting me up. He shook still watching out. I guess he was making sure I was safe the whole night.
I turned around watching for him. He didn't do anything to bug me. I felt his nose at my flank before letting him finally sniff me down. When he tried to get between my back legs I pulled away. He followed going slower this time. He didn't go between my legs this time.
