You were on your roof, staring up at the stars, sketching all the constellations, as usual.
You flicked your h/l h/c (hair lengthen hair colour) hair out of your drawing, which looked like an elaborate map of the night sky.
The moon was full, washing its light on your skin.
You closed your eyes and inhaled, taking in the beautiful night.
Below you, normal New-Yorkers went along their business; sleeping, talking, running, playing.
You sighed. It was the same thing every day.
You suddenly heard a few thuds behind you. You calmly placed your notebook and pencil down.
Please don't be Jake, PLEASE don't be Jake, you thought desperately.
Alas, you hoped for too much.
"Well, lookie what we have here," your bully's voice said, with all the malice as he did the day he first picked on you back in middle school.
"Get lost, Jake," you growled, turning to face him. His short, ginger hair was spiked up in a punk look.
To be honest, he looked like one of those washed-out celebrities.
"Oooh, gone from disobeying orders to giving them now, 'ey?" Jake asked, his grin getting wider.
"I said to leave me alone!" You yelled, balling your hands into fists.
Jake didn't listen and instead, took a step toward you.
You gulped.
"Don't come any closer," You warned.
He stepped closer still.
You grabbed the thing nearest to you – a branch, fallen off a tree overhanging the house.
Jake laughed, grabbing your wrist. "How cute," he wrenched your wrist around, making you drop the stick and scream in pain.
"Now..." he lowered his voice to a whisper, pulling you close, grinning evilly.
"Let's get down to business."
Before he could move, you uppercutted him in the jaw with your free arm, then whipped around and kicked him in the face.
He spat on the roof, fury in his brown eyes.
"You're gonna regret that," he growled.
"I don't think so!" A mysterious voice exclaimed as a shadow grabbed Jake and started attacking him.
The shadow beat him black, blue and purple.
The figure grabbed Jake's wrist and wrenched it backwards, and Jake screamed as a loud CRACK could be heard.
"You heard her," the figure growled with malice, "get lost, kid!" The figure raised his fist threateningly, never once leaving the shadows.
Jake leaped off the roof, tumbled into some bushes, and ran as fast as he could.
You lay there, gasping.
"Th-thank you," you said, breathless. "I can't believe you did that. That was awesome."
"No problem," the voice said. "Miss..?"
"Y/N," you said.
You froze as, suddenly, a green, three-fingered, inhuman hand was held out, meant to help you up.
The figure then stepped out of the shadows.
And you understood why Jake had been so petrified.
You were looking straight into the sapphire blue eyes of a giant, mutant, humanoid turtle!
"Here we go," the figure sighed, pulling his hand back. His sapphire eyes shined with tears, and he looked hurt.
"Go on, scream," he said sadly. "Not like anyone would care, though. I'd be gone by that time."
"What – are you talking about?" You asked calmly, feeling sorry for him. You motioned for him to come over.
His eyes shined with hope. "You aren't gonna yell in fear?"
"Of course not!" You replied, confused. "You just saved my life. Why on earth would I scream?"
He sat down next to you, smiling. "You're the first one," he smiled warmly, "the first one to actually think before acting."
You returned the smile, equally as warm. "I'm Y/N, but you can call me N/N." (n/n = nickname)
He looked into your eyes, and you locked the gaze.
"I'm Leonardo – or, just Leo."
