You rushed out of your room, holding a bunch of glass tubes and potions in your hands.
Your parents were sleeping. You were up late doing a Science project that was due in two months - and no, you didn't just want to get it over and done with. Science was your best subject, actually. You got straight A's in that thing.
You had already finished the project - this was just some work of your own for extra credit.
You decided to take a break. You set the equipment down on the table in the living room and threw on your coat. You opened the door, silently, and stepped into the night.
The night was full of hooting owls, singing crickets, and busy cars. You sighed, wanting to get away from it all.
You decided to go down to the creek running by your house. It was further in the woods though, so you had a little ways to go.
You trudged down the dirty path, kicking aside stray pebbles as you went.
When you finally made it to the creek, the rushing water soothed you instantly. You closed your eyes and sat down, letting your fingers caress the body of water, taking in the moment.
You heard rustling behind you and opened your eyes. Groaning, you turned around.
"Y/N, still doing good!" The voice of your nightmares greeted you as your heart stopped beating.
"Take a long walk off a short pier, Blake," you replied simply.
Your ex snickered. "I'd say you'd want me to. Come on, Y/N, face it. You know you still love me."
You rolled your eyes. "Get lost before I make you lose."
Blake advanced towards you, grinning.
You waited until he was right in front of you. Then, you struck.
You brought down your fist against the artery in his arm three times, making him scream as it went limp.
He growled, keeping his useless limb at his side.
"Big mistake," he threatened. "For a girl as smart as you, that was really not a bright move."
He raised his good fist...
"Sounds like you're not quite the bright spark yourself! Allow me to amend your broken bulb!" An unfamiliar voice called out from the darkness, before a large wooden staff, more pole than stick, smacked Blake across the face, knocking him out cold. Blake's body crumpled to the floor.
The attacker of your attacker stepped out of the shadows.
He was tall, around 6 feet. He was clipping what looked like a Bō staff to his shell.
Oh, did I mention he had a shell?
And green skin?
Because he was a humanoid TURTLE?
"Wow," you breathed. "I've never seen anything quite like you. You look like a turtle."
The turtle stared at you through fiery red orbs, which were hidden behind a purple bandanna. "You aren't gonna ...?" his face collapsed into relief.
"Thank goodness, at least SOMEBODY won't scream. For the love of all science, I've finally met someone who won't scream at the sight of me."
You smiled. "Of course I won't scream! You just beat up my ex! Thank you!"
The turtle laughed. "My name's Donatello, or you can call me Donnie." He held out his three-fingered hand.
You smiled equally as warm. "Y/N, or just N/N," you shook the hand, fireflies illuminating Donnie's red eyes.
