The Misfit Safe House(The Hunger Games)

Chapter 22

1 year later.

<Katniss's POV>

It's been a year since we graduated college. A lot has happened since then. Peeta and I got pregnant twice, but both times ended up in a miscarriage. I am now in a depression because of it. Sam had his first steps and first birthday. His first word was misfit. Marvel and Glimmer got engaged and I think that is about it.

Tomorrow there is going to be a gathering for out graduating class. It starts at 6:00pm. Jo is getting Haymitch and Effie to watch Sam who is quite mischievous. Right now it's 6:30pm and Peeta us making dinner for the four of us(rue, prim, Peeta, me). I smell shepherds pie even though I'm all the way upstairs.

"Dinners ready!" I hear Peeta shout. I sigh. I'm not all that hungry. I hear footsteps from Rue and Prim. "Katniss are you coming?" Peeta shouts up to me.

"No I'm not hungry!" I shout down to him. I hear heavy footsteps coming towards the bedroom that I'm in. I sigh. It's Peeta coming to talk to me.

He opens the door with force. "Katniss Mellark you need to eat!"

"I'm not hungry!"

"Look just because you miscarried twice doesn't mean your life is over. You need to eat!"

"You aren't responsible for me!"

"Oh no I'm never responsible for you. Just because we promised when we were married to take care of each other in sickness and in health. When I married you I didn't think you would ever turn into such an idiot!"

His words sting my heart. Tears drip down my face. "Katniss wait I'm sorry I didn't mean it!" I hear Peeta yell behind me as I run out of my house right past Prim and Rue. My feet take me right past my car and down the street. It starts to pour. Just great.

Where do I go. I can't go back to my house. Foxfaces. I'll go to her house. I walk in the rain. That's when I realize I am only wearing jeans and a crop top. I am freezing. My hair is in a messy bun on the top of my head so it isn't protecting my eyes from the rain. Thunder booms and I shiver. Finally I make it to Foxfaces house. I walk up to the doorstep and knock.

I hear shuffling from inside then the door opens revealing a tired looking Foxface. Her eyes widen when she sees me. "Katniss oh my god. Come in," she says moving aside so I can enter. Her home as always is clean. Not a speck of mess anywhere. "What happened are you ok?"

"Ya I'm fine." I explain what happened. She let's me sleep over there.

<Cloves POV>

Foxface calls me and says that Kat is over at her house because she and Peeta got in a fight. I hope she is still going to the gathering tomorrow. I hang up and go sit with Cato on the couch. He is watching The Walking Dead. This is our favorite show. It is at the part where Hershel dies. I put my head on Cato shoulder. I didn't realize how tired I was. Slowly I fall asleep there.

<Foxfaces POV>

When I wake up I look at my clock. It's 12:30! I slept in. Shoot! I get up and head into the kitchen/living room. Kat is reading a magazine on the couch.

"Morning," she says her eyes not leaving the magazine.

"Morning, want some breakfast?"

"At 12:30? No thanks I already had it."

<Katniss's POV>

"At 12:30? No thanks I already had it." When I say this I hope she can't see that I'm lying. I never had breakfast.

"Okay well I can make lunch," Fox suggests.

I shake my head. "Not very hungry."

"Ok then. A sandwich for one!"

4 hours later.

Its a half an hour before the gathering. It will be held at the cafeteria at the University. Since I didn't bring any clothes I borrow some from Fox. I am wearing a white tank top with a tan cardigan and jeans. Fox is wearing black leggings with a red tank top and a black leather jacket. My hair is in a messy bun and hers is in a ponytail. Time to go. When I look outside it looks like it is going to rain.

Foxface and Katniss get in Fox's car. When they arrive at the university everyone is together except for Peeta. He is sitting at a table alone. The other misfits are at their own table.

One hour into the gathering Finnick says he is going to go look around the school. Everyone except for Marvel, Glimmer, Katniss, and Clove go with him. The girls put their earbuds in so they can listen to music. When they leave Marvel says he is going to go and get everyone drinks. He get up and gets all the girls a glass of wine. On the way back to their table Marvel realizes he has to walk past the people the misfits hate most. The people who were the most popular kids in the school. They were the strong kids on the football teams and stuff like that. There are three of them at the table.

While walking past them one of the guys trip Marvel. He falls forward spilling the drinks on the floor. The three jocks laugh at him. Marvel gets up. When he does he turns around and says, "great job you made me spill some drinks." He starts to walk away when one of the guys says,

"At least I'm not gay." Marvel stops in his tracks and turns around.

"What did you say?" Marvel says turning around and walking up to the jock that tripped him.

"Are you deaf I called you a faggot," the guy says. Marvel looses it and attacks the boy who called him gay. Marvel throws him to the ground and punches his face repeatedly. The jock flips on top of him and starts punching Marvel. The jock stands Marvel up and the other two guys each hold one of his arms so Marvel can't move. The one guy that tripped Marvel starts to throw punches at Marvels gut.

Only now do the other misfit girls realize what is going on. They pull out they're earbuds and run to the crowd that surrounds the scene. Everyone chants the word fight. Glimmer runs past the crowd and yells. "No!" She tries to his the guy punching Marvel but he throws her back to the crowd. She tries to go at him again but Katniss and Clove hold her back so she doesn't get hurt.

Glimmer fears that no one can save Marvel since the other Misfits are out looking around the University.

<Peeta's POV>

I am still sitting at my table when I hear a high pitched voice yell. I look to my right and see that Marvel is getting beaten to pulp. I jump out of my seat and run over to the dumb asses that are beating my friend. I approache them from behind. I kick one of the boys in the back. He drops to the ground on his stomach. The other two boys drop Marvel and try to attack me. I block one of them but the other guy hits my cheek. I stumble back but quickly recover. My elbow makes contact with one of the guys nose. His nose cracks. I smirk distracted for a moment. Right at that time the third boy comes behind me and grabs my shoulders. Before he can fully attack I grab his elbows and flip him over my back. He lands on the floor with much force and moans.

Everyone at the gathering is silent and staring at me. I look at Katniss's expression. She looks almost scared of me. I pick Marvel up off the floor. The other boys have stood up. I speak. "Touch my friends again and I'll blind you." Without another word I walk outside. It is pouring. I walk about 7 meters when I hear quiet footsteps coming from behind me. It's Katniss.

"So you've come back," I say.

"I will always come back to you."

"I didn't mean to hurt you. I know what I said was stupid." At first she doesn't answer. She just walks closer to me.

"I know you didn't mean it." I am about to cry.

"You deserve someone better."

"No all I want is you." She closes the gap between us and kisses me. I wrap my arms around her. I feel her wet brown hair on her back.

"Stay with me." She says.

"Always."
