The fighting was starting to dwindle and one after another fighters fell until only the Dead Men remained standing.
Skulduggery, Anton, Saracen, Hopeless and Ravel all stood proud.
"I feel like we're missing something" Skulduggery said
"Over there!" Saracen rushed over to a hole in to wall and pulled away some of the fallen timber, revealing a bloodied and bruised Ghastly. Saracen pulled him from the wreckage and laid him on the ground outside.
Saracen checked his vitals making sure everything was still in it's proper place.
"How did you know he was there" Skulduggery asked
"I know things" Saracen said without looking up
"Can you tells us who did this?"
"I know things, just not that" Saracen said then stood up
Through the hole in the wall they could see the brute that Ghastly had fort with earlier.
He coughed up some blood, then gargled "I know who did this"
The Dead Men stepped through the wall and confronted the man.
"Who are you?" Erskine asked
"My names Sebastian, I...I cut wood for the town." He clutch his side and winced at the pain.
"Good for you Sebastian" Erskine bent down "but you said you knew who did this."
"My..my wife."
"Your wife?" Skulduggery said
"At least I think she did..but..but she died last night" Sebastian was struggling to breath. "I found her..all...all the blood"
The Dead Men exchanged some looks
"Her face..oh god her face" Sebastian was starting to break down.
Hopeless stepped forward and put a hand on his shoulder "I know it's hard to lose a loved one Sebastian, I should know I've lost a few." His voice was soft "but we need you to tell us what happened, otherwise we can avenge her."
Sebastian looked Hopeless in the eyes, he struggled to open his mouth.
"Her face" his voice was barely a whisper "was gone."
Hopeless stood up and turned to the others.
They all stood there, silent, not one of them made a joke, or a quip, they where the Dead Men and they had a job to do.
"Where did they go?" Skulduggery asked
Sebastian just raised a shacking hand and pointed to a small dirt track that lead to a small patch of woods. His arm fell and Sebastians breath left his lungs. His dull eyes filled with tears.
Skulduggery closed his eyes with a gloved finger. "We have a killer to catch." He said and they all turned and rode into the woods.
