As the weeks flew by, you fell into a sort of scattered routine. On most nights, when he wasn't busy, Taehyung would accompany you on the after dinner walk that you habitually took with Yeontan around the sweeping trails that ran along behind the complex. The two of you fell into a comfortable, if somewhat quiet, friendship.

Tonight was no exception. The two of you bobbed along side by side, your shoulders sometimes bumping into one another in a friendly manner as you went. Yeontan scurried along happily at your feet, his little wet nose to the ground, looking for the perfect place to do his business.

"It's so beautiful here," you said with a dreamy sigh. The sun was currently making its slow descent into the ground as night promised to take its turn at any moment.

Taehyung turned to look at you. "Yes, it is," he said meaningfully.

Your face defied you, lifting into a wide grin, before you slammed your shoulder into his playfully. "I meant the scenery, silly," you teased him.

He twisted his face into a hilarious grimace, making you laugh freely, before he returned his face to its rightful handsomeness and wiggled his eyebrows at you.

"Are you glad you came to the shitty?" he asked you, suddenly turning serious. He meant city, but his accent often caused him to slur his words in the most adorable ways.

You smiled again. "Of course. This is the best job I've ever had. And to get to travel to a whole new country is such an amazing opportunity..." You trailed off, lost in thought.

His face fell and you looked up from your daze and noticed this.

"What's wrong?" you questioned him, unsure of how and why the conversation had suddenly felt much more serious than it ever had before.

"Nothing," he lied. His eyes left yours and followed Yeontan as he punished a nearby tree with a raised leg.

"Come on," you teased him, the lilt in your voice inviting honesty. "You can tell me. We're friends, right?"

You thought this would make him smile again, but unfortunately it had the opposite effect. Taehyung visibly frowned now.

"What?" you asked, your heart turning in your chest. "We're not friends?"

"Ugh!" Taehyung groaned in frustration. He threw his hands up, tugging on the leash as he did so, causing Tannie to throw a seriously filthy look his way. "That's the problem! We're friends! Just friends!"

"Tae," you said gently. You hadn't expected such an outburst from him. Especially not one that so closely resembled a confession. "What are you talking about?"

"I like you!" he shouted, scaring off a group of nearby birds that had done nothing wrong except choose the wrong perch to stoop on that evening.

"You do?" you asked, choking back the laughter that threatened to betray you.

You couldn't help it. You were in shock. You never imagined that he would ever think that way about you, especially considering how hard Minji had been trying the past few weeks to have her own way with him. It just didn't make sense in your mind why he would choose little old you over someone as drop dead gorgeous as Minji. But you had to hand it to him. Even though he was impeccably good looking himself, he never seemed to treat anyone as if they were beneath him. You'd often seen his eyes light up at the sight of an elderly person or a sick child. Taehyung didn't seem to see people for who they were on the outside; he seemed to genuinely care about who people were on a deeper level.

He took your amused expression as a sign of rejection and his temper flared. "Yes! Laugh it up! Tae Tae has a crush on you!" He was saying this all so loudly, you worried that someone might overhear and then it would all be over before it even started.
