"What did the note say?" Your voice sounded small even to your own ears as you rushed after Jungkook and Minji from behind. They only ignored you and kept walking, your head bobbing between their two shoulders like one of those lonely rubber duckies in an otherwise empty swimming pool.
As soon as they had finished reading the note, they took off at a sprint. Jungkook only paused long enough to drop a wad of cash on the table next to the three bowls of soup on the table that had splattered everywhere when they shot up, spoons clinking and clattering against the chime of the decorative chinaware.
You watched as Jungkook hopped in the driver's seat, Minji disappearing right after into the other front seat. You tugged on the handle of the backseat only to find it locked. Slamming your hand against the window, you worried that they would forget about your presence and leave you there, stranded. But alas, you heard a low click and saw the little lock mechanism bob up into view and hurriedly slid into the back seat of the car.
Not two seconds after your foot was in the car, the engine revved to life and Jungkook shifted the car into drive. Slamming your door shut, you were getting pissed.
"Hello?" you damn near screamed. "Is anyone going to answer me? What did the freaking note say and where the hell is Jimin?"
It was Minji who answered. Jungkook was busy, eyes on the road, driving all tense and stiff, as slow as a little old man.
"There's no time to explain," she intoned. "They wrote a line from an old Korean fairy tale basically. It was a story about a potter who would spend all day working and then every night he'd smash all of his creations. They finished the note with a riddle too."
She pulled out the note from where she had stuffed it in her bra during her hasty exit from the restaurant and scanned the page briefly before reading aloud. "Where fire hardens clay to stone, there you will find Jimin alone."
"Wow," you said, too shocked to form a proper response.
"I know," Minji said blandly.
You watched as the traffic light turned from green to yellow and Jungkook slammed on the breaks.
"What are you doing?" you shouted. "Hurry up! You could have made that light!"
Jungkook looked around nervously. Other cars were currently going around him while he sat there at a standstill. "It turned yellow! That means slow down!" he argued.
The light still wasn't red yet. "This is kind of an emergency, Kook!" Minji said, slapping him with the back of her hand. "Go! Go! Go!"
He pressed on the gas, only to slam right back down on the brakes a second later when the light turned red at last. A troupe of cars all honked their horns in a cacophony of chaos.
"Wow," you said simply.
The man wheeled around in his seat. "I'm sorry! I'm not used to driving," he said, throwing up his arms in defense before slamming them back down on the steering wheel. "I usually have people who do that for me."
"Yeah," you said, your voice coming out all hardness and tough as nails. "I can tell."
You crossed your arms and waited impatiently for the light to switch back to green. Jungkook switched on the radio when the tense silence got to be too much for him.
Justin Bieber's swooning voice started playing in your ears and you resisted the urge to try and shove your two fists deep into your ear canals. Jungkook started to softly sing along to the familiar tune. The light flashed from red to green and Jungkook slowly eased the car forward through the intersection at a snail's pace.
