The humans walked to the point where Snowdin meets the place known as Waterfall, the ground didn't have snow anymore and it was replaced with dark navy blue dirt. David felt uneasy as he stepped into the new area, as if he knew something in Waterfall knew him significantly. Frisk noticed David's odd behavior and said

"David? David, are you ok?"

David didn't look over at Frisk, as he was staring deep into the area, but he said

"Yeah, I'm fine. I just get a weird feeling from this place."

David's comment made Frisk feel concerned for him, she made sure to keep a close eye on David. After walking about 5 yards, David and Frisk encountered Sans once more, they approached him and Sans spoke first

"What? Haven't you seen a guy with two jobs before? Fortunately, two jobs mean two legally required breaks. Do you guys want to go to Grillby's with me?"

Frisk nodded enthusiastically, but David didn't care about going, so he shrugged it off. Sans stood up and walked out of the booth he was in and said

"Alright, this way I know a shortcut."

Sans walked the complete opposite way that Grillby's was and David commented

"Sans, that's not the right wa-"

then Sans and Frisk disappeared right before David's eyes, he exclaimed

"What the hell?!"

David searched the area that he last saw them and examined each speck of dirt saying

"Is this you?! Is this you, Frisk?! Is this you, Sans?!"

A being in front of David spoke to him, but David did not look up to see who spoke, the stranger said

"Hey, are you ok?"

David let out a sigh and thought to himself

"I don't know why I'm even concerned over this dirt. They're not dead, they're are probably at Grillby's."

David stood up off of his knee and said to the stranger and said

"Sorry, mister, I thought I..."

David realized who he was talking to, he was talking to Xaenhort.

"It's you!"

David exclaimed, Xaenhort chuckled and said

"Indeed, it's me. I found you and now it's time to die again."

David was baffled when Xaenhort said "Again" but pushed that thought aside to dodge a tentacle being thrown towards him. The black tentacle arm of Xaenhort spliced into several more tentacles and headed towards David, like heat seeking missiles. David ran behind Xaenhort and, without realizing it, Xaenhort tied himself up in his own tentacles on accident. David took this moment to begin punching Xaenhort as fast and hard as he could. David's punches seemed to do somewhat minimal damage, but every time David made contact with Xaenhort's skin, he felt bits of visions come to him, each one shows him his influence with Xaenhort. Apparently, David wasn't being killed by the monsters that were in the mountain, it's been Xaenhort each time. When David did his last powerful punch against Xaenhort, he received the most important vision he could get at the moment. It answered the question about why Xaenhort was killing David. The vision took place in the middle of a monologue when David was dying, Xaenhort said

"I know this is rough for you, but this is about what's fair. You're a guy who believes in what's fair, right? You would kill the guy that has been given the second chance, even though you deserved it the most. That bastard Gaster thought he could help you and let you get a chance to live again, but not me, his best friend. If I don't get a second chance... no one else can."
