Third Person POV
Kimmon stared long and hard at the newcomer.
'Is he really my fiance?' he thought, studying the handsome face, the broad chest and shoulders and the bulging biceps, 'because if he is, it looks like I have hit the jackpot!"
The good looking young man rushed over to Kimmon. He encircled Kimmon tightly with his arms and sobbed loudly into Kimmon's shoulder.
"Kim, sweetheart, why did you leave me at our engagement party??? Why did you drive away and crash your car??? I have been frantic and been wondering when you would recover from your injuries!" The young man spoke between sobs and planting kisses into Kimmon's neck.
Dr. K studied his patient's reactions as Kimmon sat stiffly, looking wide eyed straight ahead, not returning the young man's embrace and not responding to the questions that the young man was asking him.
The young man paused from his theatrics and turned to Dr. K, giving Dr. K a look as if wanting to have some privacy with Kimmon.
"Let's go," Copter whispered to Nurse Juliet.
Nurse Juliet dutifully followed Dr. K out the door, closing it gently after her.
"Kim, sweetheart," the young man spoke again, not letting go of Kimmon, "why won't you answer me?"
"What's your name?" asked Kimmon, unable to react with any emotion towards the young man who was claiming to be his fiance but whom he was seeing for the first time.
"Kim! Are you serious???" the young man asked in a very hurt and very offended tone. "Please tell me that you're just joking."
Kimmon looked at him, not sure about what to say next. He did not want to offend this very good looking stranger. In fact, he did not want him to go away. He wanted him to stay and keep him company. He wanted the young man to keep on holding him close until his doctor came back.
Wait... his doctor... his doctor... his doctor with the dimples... his doctor with the genuine caring face and gentle bedside manners who was willing to wait out until his pain went away before he continued with his assessment of his condition, yes, that very considerate, very cute doctor with the dimples.
Kimmon pressed his fingers against the side of his throbbing head. When will that pain pill start working? Didn't the doctor say it would kick in after less than a half hour. How long ago had it been since he took it? Please, dear heavens, please take away this excruciating pain, Kimmon prayed with his eyes tightly closed, willing the pain to go away.
"Are you alright, sweetheart?" the good looking stranger asked, noting Kimmon pressing his fingers on either side of his head, "are you having a headache?"
"A massive one," Kimmon replied, "but Dr. K has already given me a pain pill. He said it will take some time before it starts taking effect."
"Dr. K? Is that his name? His name sounded like a mouthful when he introduced himself to me," the handsome stranger remarked. "I guess shortening it to Dr. K makes it easier for everyone to remember his name."
Kimmon did not react to the other guy's remark, but fell back against his pillow, closing his eyes and wishing that Dr. K had stayed to hold his hand. He felt that he would find genuine comfort from Dr. K instead of from this stranger who was continually asking questions without showing real concern.
The other guy had to let go of his hold on Kimmon. He looked down helplessly at Kimmon who was now lying on his pillows with his eyes closed. Kimmon indeed seemed not to know him or remember him.
Did the head injury that Kimmon sustained from the road accident cause him to lose his memory?
He leaned against Kimmon's bed, and took his hand.
"Kim, sweetheart, can you please call me by my name?"
Kimmon opened his eyes with a grimace.
"Tell me your name."
The stranger heaved a sigh.
"I am Newwie, I am your fiance. You left me at our engagement party more than a week ago. Don't you remember?"
"Newwie... Newwiee... " Kimmon said in a whisper, shaking his head only slightly because it was still throbbing with pain.
Newwie rushed out of the room, looking for Dr. K.
He saw Dr. K and the nurse just as they were coming out of another patient's room and were now walking towards the nurses' station.
"Hey, doctor," Newwie called out as he rushed towards Dr. K. "Will you please tell me what's wrong with Kim? Is he suffering from amnesia? Please don't tell me that he is!"
"Mr. ..." Dr. K could not remember his patient's fiance's name.
"Newwie," the fiance supplied the information. "Just call me Newwie."
"Newwie, I'm afraid I cannot discuss my patient's condition with you. Health information privacy regulations prevent doctors and nurses from discussing their patients' condition with people other than their designated responsible party," Copter replied.
"But I am his fiance!" Newwie protested.
"That doesn't mean a thing to me unless his medical chart contains your name as his designated responsible party," said Copter, "now will you please excuse me. I have other pressing matters to attend to."
With those words, Copter turned his back on Newwie.
Newwie could only stare resentfully at Dr. K's back. Something was telling Newwie that this doctor did not like him very much. In fact he could actually feel some hostility from Dr. K. Was Dr. K attracted to Kimmon? Should he consider Dr. K as a rival for Kimmon's affection?
Newwie shook his head as he turned away to slowly walk back to his fiance's room.
Then he changed his mind. He turned around and rushed back towards Dr. K.
Newwie wasn't going to just sit back and let Dr. K steal his fiance away from him.
