Copter's POV
I was in a dilemma. I wanted to keep Newwie from seeing my patient again but at the same time I knew that letting him and Kimmon interact continuously with each other would help to trigger Kimmon's memory.
I questioned my own motive for not wanting Newwie and Kimmon from getting back together again. Was it because of an unselfish motive of not wanting to let Newwie continue on deceiving Kimmon, or was it because of a selfish motive of keeping him for myself. Wait, what???
Was I starting to fall for my very own patient?
Had I already broken one of the most important rules in professional ethics?
No, it can't happen. I won't let it happen. I had worked so hard to build my career. I wasn't going to ruin it by giving in to my emotions.
I turned to Kimmon who was sitting upright in his hospital bed, his eyebrows furrowed in deep thought.
He turned to me when I called his name.
"As your doctor who is here to help you recall your memory, I suggest that you continue to let Newwie visit you and see if any more images from the past comes back to you," I said with determination, but at the same time with a sinking feeling in my heart. I felt like giving in to my selfish motive and taking back my words.
From my peripheral vision I could see Earth shaking his head in disagreement. I felt so tempted to take Earth's opinion seriously but in the next instant I scolded myself for even indulging in the thought.
"Earth," I said, facing him squarely, my voice taking on a determined tone. "would you please give me Newwie's number so that I can contact him and ask him to come back here?"
"Are you sure you want to do that?" he asked with a frown, the reluctance very much evident in his voice.
"To be honest, I don't," I replied, "but I believe that constant interaction with Kimmon will help with his memory recall."
Earth reluctantly fished out his phone from his pocket and dictated Newwie's number to me while I registered it on my phone.
Suddenly Kimmon spoke up, "I don't really know that I want to see him again."
"Just give it a try," I coaxed him, "if his presence starts to stress you out you can always opt out of it. Easy peasy."
"Or fiendishly difficult. You have seen how arrogantly adamant he can be," Kimmon countered.
"I swear it's worth a try," Kimmon's stubborn resistance to my suggestion was starting to wear me out.
"Very well," he finally said, but I could sense the hesitation in his voice.
"I'm gonna call him from my phone and then when he takes the call, I will hand my phone to you and you talk to him, okay?" I told Kimmon, determinedly ignoring the constant shaking of Earth's head.
I sucked in a large amount of air before I tapped on Newwie's phone.
Newwie's POV
I picked up the foldable bed that Earth had tossed out the door of Kimmon's room and made my way to the hospital parking lot.
I opened the trunk of my car and tossed the foldable bed inside and banged my trunk shut with more force than it needed. It angered me so much that I was fighting against three people all at the same time: Earth, Kimmon himself, and that blasted Dr. K. What were my chances of winning.
I climbed into my car and pounded my fist on the wheel before I turned the ignition on.
Suddenly my phone started to ring. It was a generic ring indicating that it was a call from someone I didn't know, someone not in my list of contacts. The number that flashed on my phone screen was from an unknown caller. I wondered whether I should ignore it. There were so many scam callers constantly wearing out my phone's battery.
Just before the last ring I decided to swipe the screen to accept the call.
"Who's this?" I asked cautiously.
There was a moment's silence.
"Newwie?" my heart jumped when I recognized Kimmon's voice.
