"I don't want you to save me, I want you to stand by my side while I save myself"
"oh my god," I said in shock as I felt her hand tighten around mine. I pressed the nurse's button on the remote and moments later a nurse came rushing in.
" She moved, she squeezed my hand!" I yelled
The nurse's face went from worried to sad, " Tom-" she started
" no, you said if she made any progress you would extend the date, she just squeezed my hand which means you have to extend the date, IT'S IN HER WILL!" I yelled, tears flowing down my face
" I'll let the doctor know," she said before walking out.
I decided to call everyone, Kayla's mom, Harrison, everyone who knew, even the detective.
In the matter of a few moments, everyone came pouring into the room.
"She's doing better," Ms.brown said, hope filled her eyes, I smiled up at her and nodded my head.
The last person to come in was Harrison. His eyes went wide when he saw her there, it was his first time visiting, and you could see the pain in his eyes. His eyes wandered to the pile of roses next to her bed
" You remembered" he started
"She loves roses," we said at the same time. He gave me a sad smile which I returned.
We all sat there for a while, just enjoying each other's company and taking our turns talking to Kayla.
Ms.Brown finished talking and it was Haz turn. He got up and knelt down by her side.
" Hey Kayla, I'm sorry I've been so distant lately, I just couldn't bear to see you, it hurt too much" He stopped and I looked at him, tears filled his eyes. AT that moment I knew he wasn't just talking about the accident. Then so many memories came to me. ALl the times him, Kayla and I would hang out. All the casual side glances he would give her, how he knew roses were her favorite... He was in love with her.
"H-Harrison..." we heard someone say causing all our heads to look up
"Kayla," we all said
Her eyes started to flutter open, she finally opened them all the way before looking around the room
"Mom, Harrison... Tom" she said, her voice hoarse from not talking for a while, " what happened?"
We all just stood there in shock, she was awake.
"y-you were h-hit..." Kayla's mom started
"o-oh," she said, "how long was I out"
"almost two months," I said, " you really scared us" I slightly chuckled in an attempt to lighten the mood.
She smiled, before looking over at the roses.
"Hey guys, can I talk to tom alone," she said
Everyone smiled at her before walking out the door. I grabbed a chair and sat down.
" I could hear you" she started, " I know at the moment it felt like you were talking to nothing, but I head you" she smiled and a tear rolled down her cheek.
"I remembered the roses..." A smile crept on my face
" I can see, thank you tom"
At that moment everything seemed perfect, but our moment was interrupted by a knock on the door and a man walking in.
"Detective Charles," I said
"Tom" He replied
" Whos this" Kayla whispered to me
" He-" I started to say but was cut off
" Detective Charles," he said walking over to shake Kayla's hand, "I really hate to break up this moment but I really need to talk to Tom"
" Oh, ok" she replied
Charles looked at me with a "please follow me look" I looked down at Kayla, I really didn't want to leave her side. But she looked up at me and gave me a reassuring look. I smiled at her before walking out the door with Charles.
" What's up," I said while closing her hospital door gently.
"Tom"
"yes"
"We found him"
