Eli got up from the couch and ran his hand through his hair. "Hey, I should probably get going now."

Hudson nodded his head before getting up too and grabbing a sweatshirt.

"W-What are you doing?" Eli asked as he saw Hudson slip a sweatshirt and shoes on.

"I'm gonna walk you home, of course." Hudson said nonchalantly and before Eli could even object, he was already past him and out the door.

Eli blinked before he too put his shoes on and ran after Hudson who was at the end of the driveway. "Y-You really don't have to walk-to walk me home." Eli panicked.

"Eli, I'm not going to make you walk home alone again. Besides, school just ended and we walk past it...you could get hurt again." Hudson said as he began to walk down the road in the direction of the school.

Eli stayed quiet, knowing that there wasn't anything he could say that would change Hudson's mind.

The sun was still up but just barely, creating a pink hue over the sky and clouds. Eli rubbed his hands together to create warmth as they neared the school.

Hudson occasionally glanced over at Eli, making sure he was okay as they passed the school. A few kids were still there but as far as Hudson could tell, they were all just band kids.

"I-I can walk home by myself now." Eli spoke up with shakiness in his voice.

"Eli, I'm not going to just leave you out here after I already began to walk you home." Hudson said sincerely. "So, don't try to get rid of me just yet."

Eli let a smile of pity cross his face as they neared his excuse for a house. It was barely livable, shingles laid on the grass in the yard and windows being repaired with wood and nails.

"Well...this is it." Eli said quietly. He shifted from his heels to his toes in embarrassment.

Hudson looked wide eyed at the house in front of him. Eli lives here? He saw the look of dread and fear in Eli's eyes and his heart cracked. "Eli..."

"Don't." Eli cut him off. "Don't say it."

"Eli." Hudson tried again.

"Don't pity me. Please. Not you." Eli's voice cracked.

Hudson sighed and nodded. "Text me if you need anything." It took all of Hudson's strength to walk away and not grab Eli's hand and drag him back to his house where he can be safe.

Hudson generally wasn't a depressed person, but when he's with Eli and the moment he leaves, he feels as if he has no happiness left. The walk home all he could think of was the lack of emotion he had, and the fact that this only happens when he has to leave Eli.
