Eli

Eli tried his best to not seem worried about Hudson's behavior. He was so used to seeing Hudson as this hyperactive ray of sunshine that he forgot that he has problems in his life too. This must be what he meant by family problems he thought as he took a bite of his fruit. The family was quiet as they ate, nothing being said as they each finished eating at different times, getting up and excluding themselves from the table.
"Alright, well I'm going to start on the dishes. Feel free to have more if you'd like." Hudson's mom spoke to Eli as she got up and grabbed plates. Eli nodded his head in thanks and looked down at his lap.
Hudson seemed to be done eating and was just spinning the fork between his fingers. Eli could see him through his peripherals and saw as he stopped spinning his fork and set it down.
"What's wrong?" Eli asked quietly. Hudson looked up and sighed with a small smile.
"It's nothing important. My dad just being a jerk." Hudson replied vaguely. Eli nodded his head, he knew a lot about dad's being jerks. After another awkward silence Hudson got up from his chair before pushing it back in. "You done?"
Eli looked down at his plate that was mostly empty and nodded. Hudson moved aside so that he wasn't in the way of Eli trying to get out of his chair. "Thank you for dinner, ma!" Hudson called and received no reply. He shrugged and motioned for Eli to come along with him.
And then they were back in his bedroom once more and it was just as tense as before. "Do you wanna talk about what happened?" Hudson asked, referring to why he had to run over to his house barefooted and with no jacket.
"My dad came home." Eli replied fiddling with his hands like always.
"And I take it he's not very nice?"
Eli looked up and sighed. He climbed up onto the bed next to Hudson, this time sitting next to him. "That's probably an understatement but yes, he's not very nice."
Hudson gave a look of pity and a smile that wasn't like his normal ones. "What's wrong?" Eli asked.
Hudson shook his head muttering a "it's nothing" and Eli rolled his eyes.
"Hudson," He began. "I know when something's wrong. And I know it isn't nothing because I say that all the time and I never mean it." Hudson looked utterly defeated when he looked to meet Eli's fierce gaze.
"I hate him." Hudson's voice cracked and his Adam's apple bobbed as he tried to swallow down his frustrations.
"Who?"
"My dad." Hudson grabbed a fistful of his hair. "He's just so unaccepting." Eli sighed, knowing exactly how that feels.
"I'm sorry, Hudson. But, if it makes you feel better, maybe I don't know, umm I-I accept you." Eli said, his tone getting quieter with each word.
