It was the middle of December, we've been in Japan for a little over four months, and I was freezing to death. The gathering room didn't freaking have a heater, screw you guys.
The reason that Yukino and I were here was because we were made too.
We were just eating dinner and minding our own business last night, Yukino and I worked together to make the rice and curry that was for dinner when the freaking phone rang. Yukino got up and answered it, I could only hear Yukino's side of the conversation which wasn't very helpful since she didn't say anything until the end. That wasn't even helpful, all she said was, "okay, thank you very much. We'll be there." Then she hung up.
"What was that about?" I asked as she sat back down.
Yukino looked at Yarah, who was happily playing with her chop sticks. Then she looked at me, "there was an incident." I'm guessing she didn't want to say anything that might frighten Yarah. "The order is calling all the adults to the gathering room tomorrow morning at 9AM."
"Wait we have to go to those meetings?" I asked, I didn't exactly want to go. I was planning on working on my cooking skills with Aliyya.
"Yes, this one is mandatory." Yukino took a sip of her tea. "We'll go after we drop Yarah off at school." At hearing her name, Yarah started to pay attention instead of pretending her chopsticks were giant fangs.
"What kind of incident?" She asked, titling her head a little.
"Yarah eat your food, don't play with your chopsticks." Yukino said, there wasn't a trace of anger in her voice.
"Okay mommy, but is there something wrong?" The concern was evident in Yarah's voice. She may only be a child, but she could definitely read the room.
I looked at Yukino, she was the only one who knew what's going on. So she was the only one who can answer Yarah, without totally lying.
"Everything is alright Yarah, don't worry about it. Just eat your dinner." She gave a smile-my stupidly gay heart still stopped beating every time Yukino smiled-and patted Yarah's head. Yarah nodded, she didn't seem to be totally convinced, but resumed eating.
Yukino looked at me, no longer smiling meaning whatever's going on wasn't good. "The order found the bodies of two members in Tokyo." Yukino explained in Japanese. Whenever we wanted to talk about something in front of Yarah without her knowing what's going, we speak in Japanese-sure she was getting better at it, but she still had a lot to learn.
"Damn it." I cursed. This was just great, it was probably either my clans doing or Yukino's. If it was, we were completely screwed.
"The order is calling for an emergency meeting, even though we aren't near Tokyo."
"Probably for the best, we'll have to be on guard 24/7 now." I sighed, this was a pain in the ass.
"Yes." Yukino said.
That's how we ended up standing in a heater-less room in our work outfits, that really didn't have any warmth. I was standing next to Aliyya, who stood next to her wife-her wife was gender fluid and Aliyya was pan, we recently found that out during something called a 'dinner party' last week. I wish I was back home, where there was heat.
There were about a dozen and a half people here, we were all waiting-in the cold mind you-for the person in charge of our section to talk to us. It had only been like three minutes since we got here, and Yukino was ready to kill.
"Where the hell are they?" She demanded, she had a threatening aura around her.
"Patience, Yukino." I whispered. Waiting around wasn't the worst thing in the world, I was taught to be patient no matter what. I once spent over a month waiting for an opening to kill one of my targets for my mother.
