Chapter 30

Rook’s Pov

Finally! I get to show my mate a whole new world. Wait, isn’t that line from a movie?

Clearing my mind I look over to my beautiful mate as she walks beside me down the sidewalk and into the town. I can tell that she is frightened by the idea of going into a human town but I’m determined to find a way for her to enjoy it.

“Hey, you don’t have to be afraid. You’re safe here.” I say trying to sooth her.

She looks up at me with wary blue eyes and just nods her head looking back ahead of her, a portion of her attention obviously on the ability to walk.

She’s actually doing rather well for a beginner

Coming to a halt at an intersection I look both ways and smile when I notice Ivory being a copycat. Seeing no one coming I head out into the street, my mate frowns but quickly gets back into place beside me her eyes frantically watching as cars head our way. Gently placing my arm around the back of her waist I pull her to the othersides sidewalk at a quicker pace, stepping over the curb just as a car goes by.

“That wasn’t so bad now was it?” I chuckle down at her.

She glares up at me but makes no move to get away from my arm so I don’t remove it, liking the physical contact. We continue walking until we get into the small shopping part of the town and I purposefully slow our pace so that she can look into the windows.

“What is that?” She eventually asks as she points into one of the shop windows.

I look to where she is pointing and smile, “That would be a teddy bear. Would you like to go see it?”

Ivory stares at the teddy bear before hesitantly nodding her head and letting me lead her to the door. I open it for her and wait for her to step through the threshold before following her in, and watching her make a beeline towards the rack of teddy bears that she had seen. She bends over to get a better look at them but keeps her distance like they might jump out at her.

“They aren’t alive so you have nothing to be afraid of. Here.” I pick one up and play with its arms lowering my voice into a childish imitation, “Hi, pretty lady. My name’s…” I pause waiting for Ivory to give it a name.

She light shade of pink comes across her cheeks but she says nothing and tilts her head looking at the teddy bear intensely, “What would be a human name that means bear or god?”

Lets see...bear or god…

“Andi, Aayan...um..”

Ivory quickly grabs the teddy bear and holds it gently, looking down at it adoringly, “Aayan...what does it mean?”

I smile and reach out to tuck a strand of hair back behind her ear, “God’s gift. A perfect choice. Very fitting, seeing as it’s my gift to you.”

My mate practically beams up at me, effectively giving me heart failure. With a deep breath I gently take the teddy bear from her and walk up to the cashier. Before I have even made it to the counter I can already tell that he has been staring at us since we came in. His eyes keep shifting from Ivory then to me and then back to Ivory, probably trying to decide who he wants to hit on.

“Just this please.” I place Aayan on the counter and pull out my wallet.

The boy doesn’t do anything and just keeps staring but now he is just focused on Ivory and to be honest it is ticking me off.

This little…

I wave a hand in front of his face to get his attention, “Hello? Anyone in there?”

He jumps with a start and looks up at me since I usually do tower over average people. He quickly takes the bear and starts scanning it but his eyes keep sneaking glances at Ivory who is now wandering around the store.

Just. Hurry. Up. Kid!

I clear my throat and once again he jumps. Finally he finishes putting the bear into the plastic bag and hands it to me.

“Come on, Ivory. Time for the next shop.” I call out to her to which she comes immediately.

I smile down at her and hand her the bag she opens it excitedly and pulls out Aayan, hugging him close to her chest.

Great...I’m jealous of a toy now…

“U...um...hi”

The two of us turn our attention to the boy that is now no longer behind the counter but standing awkwardly with his hands clasped in front of him. His eyes are timidly on Ivory and his cheeks are deeply flushed. Ivory looks up at me unsure but then turns her attention back to the intruding human.

“Um...hello?” She sounds unsure of what she is saying but nonetheless I am proud of her for stepping out of her comfort zone.

Even if it is for this worm of a human

“M...My name’s Ryan.” He says trying to offer her a hand for a handshake.

Ivory instinctively shrinks into my side. I step forward and lean down to whisper into his ear, “Her name is Ivory, but unfortunately for you she is already taken.” I stand up straight with a smile and give him a wave as I gently pull Ivory towards the exit, “It was nice meeting you, Ryan.”

As if. He was trying to hit on my girl. On my mate.

Once out of the store and walking down the street again Ivory gives me a quizzical look but says nothing and just holds Aayan so that her arms are crossed around his front and her mouth is hidden by the tip of his head.

So cute…

“Oh, um, are you hungry?” I ask finally remembering my manners.

Ivory quickly nods her head and looks up at me with puppy-dog eyes. With a chuckle I reach up and grab one of her hands intertwining her fingers.

“Then I know the perfect place.”

Wow. Ok so, now I have realized that I just get too excited and post them as I finish them. I guess I should just say that you will get one a week😅
