Quickly beginning to panic, Katie rushed downstairs in her nightdress grabbed her shoes and dashed through the door, she began to explore what she was beginning to think was a dream, in her logical mind, what happened to her mother and brother couldn't be a coincidence... could it? Katie didn't know. And as far as she currently knew, she wasn't sure if she ever would want to. Beginning to get bored of exploring the grounds of her home, she wished to venture further into the forest, after all she had spent at least two hours searching around her home or at least it had felt like two hours and Matthew had been forbidden to play there, and so as young children do, they believed monsters lived in there. Desperately searching the isolated forest for a way into the local village, she stumbled upon what looked like an old house. It looked like it had stepped out of a fairy tale or folklore. But what occurred next had the Earth shuddering in horror at the very thought of it. Quacking in her shoes, Katie knew it. She, Katie Mullon, had discovered the secret.
Hours before this incident occurred, whilst exploring the woods around her home, Katie passed by a girl with brown pigtails bouncing about on her chest as she ran. Katie, who grew up believing that she and her brother were the only children who lived in the forest, was curious and incredibly so. She ran towards the girl who looked a tiny bit only than Katie. But as soon as she came up to the girl, the girl disappeared. She hadn't faded away. It was as if she was suddenly deleted from existence. Clearly not believing her own eyes, Katie walked off, further into the forest. She didn't know what she was looking for. Perhaps a clue? A way out? Firewood. Everywhere. She knew for a fact she didn't need it but chose to take it anyway. Perhaps she could use it for something? Whatever reason that could be, she had a distinctive feeling that she would most likely need it.
Walking back home with nothing but a few planks of firewood, she saw a frantic woman charging through the forest screaming and shouting, it seemed unintelligible. She began to approach Katie and by now it was clear what she was shouting about "TIME! TIME WHERE ARE YOU? Oh my goodness," Upon seeing Katie the woman began "Have you seen my little girl, she's about this tall," she held her hand up to her hips. "Slim, with brown hair? Oh please tell me you've seen her!" Katie gave the woman a perplexed look, before asking the girls name. The woman looked her straight in the eyes and spoke up "Time wouldn't tell you," Before dashing past Kate and disappearing almost instantly. "What on Earth..." Katie muttered as she began approaching the opening in the woods leading up to the house again.
Beginning to believe something was slightly wrong or that she was going crazy, she fled as quickly as she could back to her home. Only to find it looking much older and much smaller than when she had first left it. She attempted to fit her key in the lock, only to find that it didn't fit. "Huh.." She thought aloud to herself "Perhaps I picked up the back door keys instead?" Rushing to the back door, she picked the key out of her pocket and attempted to push it into the once brass and now wooden lock. It wasn't even close to fitting. Once again she peeked over te fence to see the little pale girl with brown pigtails playing in the snow.
Currently, the secret thing was speaking "TIME! GET OVER HERE!" came a booming voice of thunder through the cottage doors and the fence shook in fear.
