Alright, before we get started, let me explain. So, basically, the spot where your soulmate first touches you (skin to skin contact, might I add) your skin turns black, then turns into your flag.
When Evan has first seen Connor at the start of school, he'd been surprised. The length of his hair had certainly caught him off guard. He hadn't expected it. Though, what did he care? He barely knew Connor. What he thought about his hair didn't really matter.
As he sat in the computer lab, preparing to print his letter, he could honestly say he hadn't noticed Connor's presence at all. Looking back, he realized that he'd done just what people did to him, but it wasn't like he could change it.
After Connor had stormed off, Evan had quickly stuffed the letter in his pocket and walked home. His mom was working late again, so she wouldn't be home until around midnight. So he wouldn't see her, again.
The next morning, Evan had gone to school completely exhausted. He'd ended up staying up almost all night, gaining just a few blissful hours of sleep before his alarm clock screeched at him.
"Hey Jared," Evan said sleepily. "How was class?"
"You look like shit,"Jared laughed. "Class was great- oh, hold on." Jared looked at Connor as he passed them. "Nice hair length, very school-shooter chic."
Connor turned, obviously pissed. Jared backed off a bit. "Hey, chill man, it was just a joke."
"Oh no, it was funny," Connor said in a flat voice. "Can't you tell I'm laughing?"
Evan stepped forward then. "Hey, chill, uh, it was just, just a joke?"
Before Evan could say anything else, Connor shoved his shoulders, knocking him to the ground. Evan felt his rough hands make contact with his skin.
And in front of the entire cafeteria, his skin turned deep black.
Connor looked horrified, the turned and ran. Evan sat dumbfounded on the floor, staring wide eyed at his arms. It was only when Jared hauled him up by his forearm did he realize where he was.
"Go after him," Jared mumbled, shoving him.
Evan ran quickly in the direction Connor went. "Oh man, what've I done, this is bad bad bad..."
He found Connor sitting on a staircase towards the back of the school, head in his hands, muttering to himself. Evan hesitantly sat next to him, making sure to keep his distance. By this time, he noted, his skin had turned to bright shades of pink, purple, and blue.
"Hey, uh, um, Connor? You, you okay?"
Connor laughed. "Okay? I just shoved my soulmate to the floor in front of the entire school. Yeah, I'm just peachy."
Evan cringed. "It's, uh, it's okay. You didn't know, and I was, I was being dumb, cause Jared was being mean and I was sticking up for him."
Connor stood then, heading for the door the lead outside. "Well, you coming, Hansen?"
For once, Evan knew he wouldn't regret this choice.
