Jungkook's POV:

Nobody really knew how much pain I was always in. It had been that way for the last three years. I hid it well behind a smile. Lily had been missing for three years. She'd be 15 now. I was 17. Everyone had given up hope, decided the vampires had to have killed her by now. Otherwise we would have found her already.

The pack never really forgave me. Well, Jin, Jimin, and Hobi never blamed me. They saw the shape I was in when I was brought back from the woods and the way I snapped when I found out that Lily wasn't returned with me. Nobody knew, but I still searched for her most nights. I would never give up hope that I'd find her one day.

Still, everyday, I fooled everyone with my smile. Jin, Hobi, and Jimin thought I had gotten over the loss of Lily. Our friends, who were surprisingly vampires, that we'd made second year of high school, knew about Lily, but also believed that I had grieved and gotten over it. Kim Namjoon, Min Yoongi, and Kim Taehyung seemed like decent guys. All seven of us got along really well, and they were the proof I needed to prove to myself that not all vampires were the assholes that took Lily. The pack wanted to start a war we couldn't win. This helped stop it.

"Hyung!" Taehyung called to me, throwing a paper ball at my head to get my attention.

"What?" I asked him, throwing the paper ball back at him.

"You got lost in thought there, Kookie," Namjoon said.

"You haven't touched your lunch," Jin said, acting motherly again.

"Are you okay?" Jimin asked, worried.

"Yeah," I said, flashing them all the smile I had hid behind for so long.

"Don't give us the bullshit," Yoongi said. "We had been trying to get your attention for a few minutes before we let Tae start throwing things at you. What's on you mind?"

"Mostly pack stuff," I said, partially telling the truth.

"What do you mean?" Hobi asked.

"They still blame me for Lily being taken away, for her death," I said, shrugging. "I hear the rumors, many don't think I should take over the pack when it's time for my father to step down."

"Kookie," Jin said sympathetically. "You were physically broken and half-dead when you were brought to my house for me and Eomma to work on you. You were 14 and did everything you could do against four fully grown vampires. Anyone who says otherwise is an asshole."

"Wow, Jin," Jimin said, laughing. "You actually cursed."

"Look, Kookie," Namjoon started. "Yoongi, Tae, and I may not have known you when all this went down with your sister, but the way you talk of her, we know you must have done everything to protect her. The way Jin describes it, you nearly died. Being a lone adolescent wolf against four adult vampires, even with you being the alpha you are, your chances of defeating them all were slim. The only way you would've had the advantage was if it was the full moon."

"Actually, I remember it was the new moon, the dark of the moon," Hobi said. "When those of us went to find Kookie and Lily went, I remember some complaining that we were in the worst of the cycles of the moon for us and how it also made for less light for the search."

"It sounds like whatever vampire did plan this, planned for the wolves to be at their weakest," Yoongi speculated. "We're not as affected by the cycles of the moon."
