During science, River was my partner just like he promised he would be. Occasionally i would find myself staring at him, but i would catch myself and try to focus on the lesson. The teacher gave us all a lecture about safety during experiments and how missing work would be unacceptable. Basically, the same exact speech as almost every other science teacher that i have had in the past. Before i knew it , it was 10 minutes till the end of class. "Wait for me by your locker, i'll meet you there, okay?" River whispered in my ear. "Do you even remember where it is?" I asked him out of actual curiosity. "Of course i do." he said in response. "Whatever you say Mr. Phoenix." I said in a playful tone. He winked and smirked at me in response. I started to blush so i quickly look down at the packet the teacher had given us with all of the rules and supplies we would need for this class.
Once class was over, i walked over to my locker just like i was told to. I waited for about 5-10 minutes before i saw River walk over to me. "Hey, sorry for the wait." he chuckled a chuckle with a hit of nervousness. "It's totally fine, but i was just beginning to think that you might have forgotten about me." I said looking down so i didn't have to look him in the eye. "Now, come on, you know that that could never happen." he said right before touching my arm, and i quickly relaxed under his touch. I look back up at him and we both just stood there for what seemed like forever just staring at each other. "Um, s-so should w-we, um, you know, start w-walking." He eventually said. "Yeah, uh, o-of course." i said back in response. And off we walked.
We walked for a while and talked the whole way, but we were only about halfway to both our homes. "So... if you don't mind me asking, why did it take you so long to come meet me at my locker?" "I had to talk to Martha, she's coming over later tonight for dinner with my family. You know, the boring stuff." "You know, i can't remember the last time i went out for dinner. My dad's mostly always working so we basically just eat stuff around the house." "Maybe the both of you can come over and have dinner with us sometime, i mean, if it's not a problem." "Of course not, and i don't think that it ever could be." We continued to walk and just talk about the random stuff that just popped into our heads. Suddenly, i felt River reach down and grab my hand. I looked at him in confusion before he finally said that he knew a bit of a short-cut through the woods. "Are you sure, i mean, you never know who could be in there." "600% positive, plus if anyone tries to hurt you, i'll just kick their butts." "I'm gonna be holding you to that." We made our walk through the woods and it was absolutely beautiful. "Wow, this place is amazing." "I know right. I come here whenever i feel stressed or sad about the things happening around. You know, like with the animals and the environment and just the world in general." It was always so inspiring whenever River would talk about his feelings towards the things he truly believed in because you could always tell that he really believed in it. It always made me feel like i should be doing more and that i wasn't ever doing enough, because in all honesty, i wasn't. "You should see the beach that's around here." "Wait, there's a beach around here too?" I was in disbelief. I couldn't believe that such a small town could have so many wonders all around.
After walking for awhile, we finally reached our homes. "Thank you so much for walking with me, it really, truly means a lot." I thanked him. "It's no problem, i mean, this was kind of my excuse to get to know more about you." "So this all was kinda like a little mission for you?" "Kind of, i just think you're a really fun and interesting person to talk to. I mean, it's weird, because i've only known you for a short time, but i feel like i could tell you anything." he literally said what i have been thinking for the past few weeks of knowing him. "i feel the exact same way. Anyway, thanks again, i'll see you around?" "Is that even a question?" "obviously not, i guess. See ya!" " not if i see you first." He said with a smirk that could make your heart melt a million degrees over. I started to walk away when i heard his voice behind me. "Willow?" "Yeah, River" "Um, never-never mind. It's, uh, it's nothing. And, um, you can call me Riv. " "Okay, see ya again... Riv" i said with a smirk. He just stood there looking down at his glasses like he really wanted to say something. I didn't want to pry, so i didn't say anything. And besides, i could always ask him tomorrow.
As i walked in my house, i didn't know what i was going to do. I like him so much, but he has a girlfriend and probably will never feel the same way. But i guess miracles do happen every day, right?
