At home, I throw my keys into the bowl in my usual routine, and sit myself down on my plush living room sofa. The room was all windows, and I could stare at the night. I pulled out my phone and threw my feet, heels included, onto the coffee table. I stared at Thomas' name on my fluorescent screen. I really should wait for him to text me. Sighing, I stand up and walk over to the fridge. I pull out a water bottle and take a sip, but after putting the cap back on, I decide to pull a teenager. I start belting out "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry into my water. The feeling of being free that joins me when I sing is something I yearn for.
Suddenly, my phone buzzes, and I drop the water and lunge for it, hoping that it's Thomas. To my dismay, it was a two way call coming in from Aiofe and Georgia.
"Hello?" I say, sitting down on the couch again.
"Hey!" The girls say in unison. "How was filming?" Georgia asks.
"Not bad," I start, about to tell them my story, but Aoife interrupts.
"Girls day tomorrow!" She exclaims. I smile. It's about time I did something other than work-related stuff. Even though it didn't feel like work.
"Sounds good." I say. "I'll pick you guys up at 3?"
"Yes ma'am! We're going shopping!" Georgia announces. As if I'd expect to do anything else with them. Shopping was our go-to thing to do. We all had the money to spend, and we were going to spend it.
"Geo, you had something to tell Gabs!" Aoife adds.
"Oh, well it's nothing, really..." She says, but before I can protest she blurts out, "Lucy and I are going on tour!"
Lucy was Georgia's older sister. They both had awesome talent in dance, and apparently they got signed.
"Really!?" I say, "That's amazing!"
"Yeah, we auditioned to join this group and we got in. I'm so excited!"
I continued my conversation with them, but eventually my eyelids started to fall and I had to excuse myself to go to bed.
I was excited for tomorrow. It was Friday, and I would be spending it with my best friends.
My eyelids flew open with the buzzing of my phone. A quick look at the clock tells me it's noon. I groan and roll over, picking up my phone in my tired hands.
As if my heartbeat wasn't pounding enough from the startling wake-up call, the text I received had been from none other than Thomas.
"hi! it's thomas, haha." I smile at his text. I already knew it was him, he gave me his number, too.
"hi there!" I text back, deciding I would let him make conversation to see where this whole this was going.
I took a long, hot shower, massaging my hair and stepping out feeling good again. I willed myself not to look at my phone and try not to seem desperate. That would be super weird. Instead, I put my hair in a towel to dry and got dressed in my high-waisted navy blue shorts and tucked my white tank top in. I added a floral scarf that had hints on navy blue in it, among other colours, and put on my makeup, opting for little to none. Today was an au-naturel day.
Finally, with my hair still wrapped in it's towel, I checked my phone. I opened the unread text from Thomas and read it.
"i was just wondering... is there any chance you're free tomorrow night?"
My heart stopped in my chest and the towel fell off my head. Does he mean, if I'm free for a date? I shake my head. I can't let anyone get in the way of my career. This is my only chance at life. I suck at everything else; this is my first and last chance.
