Sunday morning follows, joined by a beautiful church service and a visit to my parents graves. I go every Saturday, with an elderly lady from church that I've known since I was five. Her name is Kelly, and she has short grey hair and a wrinkled face. But she's beautiful. Her eyes are brown and her smile lights up a room. She sings in the choir with me, and her voice makes me happy. She tells jokes all the time, and even though I'm visiting my parents graves I never feel sad because I know she's beside me.
"What's wrong, Gabrielle?" Kelly says as we walk back from my parents graves.
"Nothing, I just miss them." I answer.
"Not about them. Something else is troubling you." She says.
Kelly can read emotions very well.
"It's just this guy..." I want to stop there, but I feel like telling her more. I need someone to talk to. "I went on what I thought was a date with him, and I totally let myself fall... But he has a girlfriend! And now I feel really stupid!" I put my face in my hands, feeling discouraged.
"Any boy would be lucky to have you. Get him to dump his girlfriend." She says, unfazed.
My jaw drops and I stare at her. Not because what she says seems rude, or wrong.
But because she's totally right.
I'm Coral! The singer who has a career blossoming! I'm a catch.
Did I just say that?
"Thanks, Kelly." I said, and give her a hug. We both go our separate ways after we deposit our flowers: me on my parents graves and hers on that of her late husband.
Sunday mornings are always me time, but that doesn't mean Lauren doesn't want me busy the rest of the day. After I change into comfy shorts and a basic top that shows my stomach, she picks me up to go to the studio to get some extra clips before the music video will be released.
As I pull myself into her car, Lauren is already instructing me.
"Okay, so the video is to be released in two days. We've got the producers working hard and this afternoon as well as tomorrow we are going to be hanging out with them as they edit. You must have a hand in everything that happens, because you're not going to be one of those stars." She emphasizes "those" as she shifts gears and pulls out of my driveway, speeding onto the bridge that leads from my quiet area into the busy city
"And oh dear Lord, what are you wearing?" Lauren says. Lauren would be in her late twenties, so she was usually okay with what I wore.
"What?" I say, looking at my baggy clothes.
"People are going to see you!"
"Who?" I really couldn't care about some stupid techie behind a screen seeing my stomach. I was in good shape, anyways.
"Well, the producer of the video, the editors, the man who helped you co-write the song! Oh, and that boy from the video too, they're bringing back for some extra shots."
"What boy?!" I say, raising my eyebrows in shock.
"You know, the main guy in that video." She replied, turning into the parking lot.
Thomas will be there. And even though I've determined I'm not going to let the hottie slip away, I'm kinda nervous about seeing him again.
And my outfit is terrible.
"You know what, Lauren? You're right, this outfit isn't appropriate. Do you have something for me to borrow?" I look at her long pencil skirt and white blouse.
"Not with me, no. But I'm sure they'll be plenty in your dressing room."
Now the challenge was getting to the dressing room un-noticed. At least unnoticed by Thomas.
I pushed some hair into my face and pulled my purse onto my arm, staring at the floor and moving quickly. My dressing room was just around the corner, and I had almost made it, when Lauren tapped my shoulder. Forced to look up, I stared at the man who she was standing with.
"Lauren, I'm in a rush-" I said.
"Gabrielle," She said.
"Uh, Lauren." She's not suppose to tell others my real name if they're part of the business, unless it's necessary.
"Gabrielle, this is Garrett." She smiled. "My boyfriend."
He took her hand, and I finally let myself look at the guy. He had buzzed brown hair and mysterious eyes. He was about a foot taller than her, but she was only five five inches. In all honesty, they looked really compatible. It was adorable.
"Awe!" I said. I had no idea Lauren had a boyfriend. "It's so nice to meet you, Garrett!" He extended his free hand and I shook it.
"You too!" He responded. "I'm actually on set today with my client Thomas. The actor in your video."
"Oh!" I said, "That's cool!"
"Well, I guess I'll see you while filming, then?" I said. He nods and smiles, and they turn away, professionally letting go of each other. I breathed a breath of relief and sneak into my dressing room. I throw my bag on the familiar couch and sit at my makeup mirror, trying to fix my hair. A head of chocolate brown hair looks at me through the glass. I scream before I can help myself.
