"Did you grab your underwear?" Ian asked Adam as he placed his suitcase in the back of the RV. Adam scowled, glancing over at me and then back at Ian. Ian laughed.
"Yes," Adam mumbled, stepping side so he could pass me. I chuckled, placing my suitcase beside Ian's.
"Does he normally forget?" I asked as Ian shut the back door. I moved out of the way so he could jump down from the step.
"Yes," Chase answered as he came around the back of the RV. "He usually asks if we can stop at a walmart or something because he either forgot underwear or his toothbrush." He checked the lock of the door to make sure it was secure before making his way to the door steps at the front. I followed in suit, taking a place beside him on the couch inside. I glanced around the RV. It was like a camper but with 6 bunk beds in the hallway and a queen-sized bed in the back room. There was a small kitchenette and two bathrooms. I could tell I was going to enjoy this.
"So, who's the opening act? I never asked and a I don't see anyone else," I asked. It was true. I didn't see any extra person roaming around, so I was curious.
"You," he answered. He leaned back, resting his arms across the couch. Ian and Adam entered the RV, Lucas not far belong. The driver hopped in, turning back to check on us.
"Everyone good?" He asked.
"We're good, Todd," Ian yelled from the back. He, Ian and Lucas had busied themselves with the Xbox. It's funny how fast they could busy themselves with the Xbox. The RV lurched. I turned and look at Chase, his eyes closed.
"But I thought I was in the band?" I questioned. He opened his eyes.
"You are. We want you to do both," he answered. I looked at him and I could tell he understood the confusion. He sighed and sat up. "We want you to be part of the band, singing duets and some back up and lead. But you also deserve the spotlight, so your our opening act."
"So what you're saying is, I'm opening up for you guys?" I asked. Chase just looked at me.
"Isn't that what I said?" He asked, clearly thinking I was stupid. I felt my cheeks heat up. I pressed my face to my cheek hoping my colds hands would warm them up.
"Well, yes. But it would have been nice to know I was doing my own act so I could plan what I would be doing," I said. I started to panic. There was less than a day before I was performing my own work. I barely had five songs written.
"You'll be fine. You have at least seven songs written, right?" He questioned. i shook my head. He raised his eyebrows and let out a deep breath. "Well, that sucks." I nodded. "Well, you have a whole bus ride to come up with some at least."
"I don't think I can write two songs in twenty-four hours. I'm not that creative," I said.
"Well, then I'll help you," Chase said, standing up. He held out his hand for me to get up. I took it, steadying myself as the RV hit a bump.
" You don't have to do this," I said. Chase reached into the small, side closet and pulled out his guitar. I followed him to the back room and he sat down the guitar on the bed. I shut the door behind me, not wanting to disturb the Xbox playing going on right outside of it. "Really, you don't. "
"Don't be ridiculous," he answered. He grabbed a pen and notepad on the bedside table. He sat down on the bed and put his guitar into his lap. He motion for me to sit and picked at his guitar. I sat down next to him as he figured a way to string some chords together. "Whatever comes to your mind, let it out. That always helps me." I nodded, listening to the chords.
"I found myself today
"Oh I found myself and ran away
"But something pulled me back
