I woke up to the sun pouncing on me through the curtains. I heard the small hum of the bus as it raced down the highway. I rolled over to look at the clock, sighing at the number eight that shined back at me. I groaned as I sat up, rubbing my eyes. I could hear whispered talk coming from outside the door. I stretched, putting my feet on the bus floor before stepping out of bed. I checked the mirror to make sure I didn’t look crazy in any sort of way before easing out of my room.
The guys sat on the couch, Ian on the floor, discussing something in quiet voices. I made my over to them. They all jumped and then laughed at each other. I rolled my eyes and grabbed a water from the fridge. I turned around to face them and notice them all looking at me.
“What? Do I look like a dead cat?” I asked. I immediately started feeling self-conscious. I did go to sleep last night in tears. But I figured that through the night, my eyes had gone down and weren’t as puffy. I looked in the mirror and it didn’t seem noticeable.
“More like the bride of Frankenstein,” Lucas joked. Chase playfully hit him in the arm as Lucas laughed. I gave him a sour look before taking a sip of my water. I walked over, sitting down next to Ian on the floor. He scrunched his nose up and plugged it with his fingers.
“And smell like her too,” he laughed. I rolled my eyes and placed the water between my folded legs.
“Shut up,” I smirked. They all chimed in with laughter. After a few seconds, the laughter died down and all eyes were on me. I started feeling uncomfortable and willed someone to say something. No one did. Instead, they all looked at me and between themselves for a few minutes. “What is going on?” I asked suspiciously.
“We want you to be a part of the band,” Ian said suddenly. I looked at him confused.
“I thought I already was?” I questioned. I glanced between them all wondering how I had mistaken that.
“You are,” Chase started. He looked between them all before leaning forward and placing his arms on his knees. I could smell his cologne, his body being inches from mine. “But we’ve been searching for a singer for a while now. I haven’t been as into singing as I used to be.” I felt my heart jump. There was no way this was true.
“Really?” I asked. They all nodded in agreement. I couldn’t help but smile. A week or so ago, I was just a normal girl, with a secret of course, who went to school, had high school friends and only sang in her room. It’s crazy to think how much had changed in a week.
“Yeah, we’re kind of sick listening to him,” Adam laughed. I chuckled.
“We wanted to make sure that you fit with the band before we made it official. After your performance last night, I’d say that you do,” Chase said. “And your few opening acts also.” My heart felt happy. I stood up without thinking and gave them all a hug. They all looked at me, weary of my sudden happiness.
“Thank you,” I said. I truly meant it. Everything that had happened last night just seem like a blur. I couldn’t believe that I was actually part of the band now. I felt important. Now everyone was going to know me for me and not some ordinary girl. I couldn’t be any happier. “What about your opening act?”
