^he cute

hwayoung walked into her morning shift at the cafe on Saturday. she had arrived slightly later than she normally does to open up, so she was expecting yeosang to be there already. it was a surprise to her when he wasn't.

normally on weekends her and yeosang opened up the shop and the other workers came at 12pm to switch with them. they only worked 3 hours at the weekend but worked slightly more during the week it the had to.

she waited to open the cafe and just as she got her phone out to call yeosang, she received a call from him, "yeosang where are you?" she asked, trying to she the slight impatience in her voice. but she couldnt really get mad at him, she never was able to get ma at anyone. she cared too much.

"I'm at a friends house." his voice came through all croaky, it sounded as if he had just woke up or had been shouting for three hours straight.

"what about the cafe? I can't handle it on my own." she bit her fingernail, hoping he would say he would come quickly. she knew he probably wouldnt but theres always hope.

"I sent a friend down to help you."

"which friend?"

"uhhh," he seemed hesitant to say which only made hwayoung's impatience grow, she wanted him to have sent someone she knew. hopefully mingi or san as they were her close friends also friends with yeosang.

"who is it yeosang?" she asked, he could hear the impatience but knew she would still hate him when he said.

"you know, tall, handsome..." he drifted off not knowing how to finish without telling her.

"is it mingi?" she questioned.

"no."

she sighed, "yunho?" she didnt know him as well as the others but he had been her lab partner the previous year and they seemed to get along quite well. she was kind of hoping it would be him if it wasn't mingi.

"unfortunately wrong."

"then who is-"

as if to answer her question someone knocked on the door of the cafe. hwayoung looked up from the tray of cakes she had been trying to organise while talking to yeosang. she saw a smirking seonghwa at the door and whispered into the phone to yeosang. "I'm going to kill you." before hanging up.

she walked around the counter and to the door, opening it and welcoming seonghwa into the cafe. she may not particularly like him but it was better than doing it on her own.

he walked around the back of the counter, taking off the jacket he was wearing and putting on the cafe's signature cream apron with the logo in the top right corner. obviously having been told by yeosang.

hwayoung just sighed and placed the cakes in the glass cabinet so that people would be able to see them and choose what they would like. seonghwa just watched her, he didnt really know what to do.

wether he should apologise for what he said last night, or if he should just keep quiet. he also didnt know how to work in the cafe. yeosang only told him where the aprons were and how to not piss off hwayoung. which he had learned that there were three rules to:

1 - don't put anything in her hair, don't do anything to it. (emphasised by yeosang raising his eyebrows. many times.)

2 - if she is in the middle of making a drink or serving a customer, do not interrupt unless crucially important.

3 - if you do something wrong and dont ask for help on how to fix it she will most likely be disappointed that you didnt want to ask her and then she won't talk to you for days. (he learnt that from experience.)

seonghwa fiddled with his fingers stood behind the counter, while hwayoung properly opened up the cafe. when she walked back inside she turned to him.

"I'll make the drinks and handle the cash register and you can serve the drinks to peoples tables. the numbers are written on the table and if you have no clue please ask. it annoys me when people waste time by being confused when they can just ask." she look for his response.

"thank you." he replied, hwayoung nodded at this as a you're welcome. he made a mental note to check all the table numbers before it got too crowded. as hwayoung started to walk away he abruptly grabbed her wrist, surprising he slightly.

he then realised what he was doing and let go, "ah, sorry. I just wanted to say sorry for the way I spoke to you yesterday." she just stared at him, not believing one bit that he would actually be sorry. he had a knew girl every week at school.

"okay," she said, walking over to the name tags and writing his name on one before giving it to him. "wear this." she handed it to him as the bell rang signalling that there was a customer.

hwayoung turned to the arrivals, leaving seonghwa to struggle with the name tag. "welcome!". seonghwa fiddled with the name tag and hwayoung talked to the customers, but he couldnt seem to figure out how to get it on.

after she had finished speaking to the customers, she noticed seonghwa struggling and internally sighed. "need help?" she walked towards him. he looked up towards her with thankful eyes. "yes please."

she took the name tag from him and out it just below the logo of the cafe so that it would be clear for the customers to see. she then went on to making the drinks and gave them to seonghwa so he could serve the customers.

they went on like this until the other workers came for them to switch. hwayoung and seonghwa left the cafe together, both walking the same direction home. he had asked if she wanted him to walk her home and even though she said no they were walking the same direction.

hwayoung decided she would take a different route home than she usually took, taking the bus instead of walking. seonghwa following. she took the opportunity to ask him a question she had been wanting to know.

"why did yeosang send you to fill in for him?" she turned to him as they sat in the bus stop, waiting for the next bus to arrive. seonghwa looked away as if he was thinking and then looked back towards the girl.

"he didn't ask, I volunteered." this response surprised hwayoung, more questions popping into her head such as, "why?"

"because I wanted to apologise for what I said yesterday." he replied in a soft voice. honesty trailing in his words. hwayoung just nodded at this, not knowing how to respond. maybe the bad boy seonghwa wasn't who she thought he was after all?
