A ray of soft light broke through the glass, illuminating the sleeping man with a gentle glow. He stirred, itching his stubble as he adjusted to the morning sun and let out a yawn.
He shifted, rolling onto one side to lazily gaze upon the woman sleeping peacefully next to him on his bed. A blissful smile grazed his lips as the man stroked the vibrant, red strands of hair away from her face, tickling the spot behind her ear as he did every morning.
The woman awoke with a hum, blinking up at him through batted eyes. Although he had watched her wake up next to him every day for the past five years, the man didn't think that he would ever get used to how beautiful she looked to him in this instant.
"Morning," the redhead giggled, gracing a pale hand through his messy curls as she stifled a yawn, curling more closely into his side.
"Morning Anne-girl," Gilbert replied softly, leaning into her touch. Their lips met in a sweet kiss, limbs still wrapped around each other from the positions of their slumber.
Quickly, things grew more intimate.
Gilbert murmured her name, sending shivers racing down Anne's neck at the close proximity of his lips. She couldn't resist any longer; pressing her lips against his, butterflies erupting in her belly. Their lips moved against each other with increasing urgency, the redhead tugging at the curls on Gilbert's head as he continued to breathe his many nicknames for her.
Just as Anne was about to climb on top of him, they were rudely interrupted by the harsh tone of her alarm. A frustrated sigh escaped both of their lips at the sound, Anne throwing her hands against her face in disbelief.
Anne had always been a morning person, for when she was younger she loved to run to her window and take in the beauty of the world. However, with a simple tilt of her head to the left, she could see that this beauty was lying next to her, peppering her neck with kisses, and suddenly found none of that urge to leave her bed remaining.
"Gilbert," she moaned reluctantly, "Gilbert, we have to get up."
The brunet ignored her, continuing to press soft kisses to Anne's cheeks and neck. "Five more minutes," he stared at her intently before placing a delicate kiss on her mouth.
Their faces stayed inches apart for only a moment before Anne gave in, muttering, "five more minutes," before joining their lips once more.
The sharp noise rang through the room once more, and Gilbert cursed into Anne's hair. She huffed and reached across to turn off her boyfriend's alarm. "This is the universe telling us to get up, Blythe," she teased, beginning to wriggle out of his loving grip.
Gilbert only responded by groaning loudly, throwing the covers over his head. This earned soft giggles from the delicate redhead as she finally detached herself from his grasp, making her way over to the bathroom to shower.
"Get up!" She laughed musically, the careless yet beautiful sound sending electric impulses jolting through Gilbert's body. "You're working on the wards today, they won't appreciate it if you're late! And I've got screaming kids demanding my attention for their maths problems!"
Gilbert mumbled his grievances, but obediently rolled out of their shared bed. "Fine," he groaned once more, before a devilish glint appeared in his eye as he laid eyes on his Anne, "but I have an idea on how we can save time."
Anne quirked her head, crossing her arms adamantly across her chest, "oh yeah?"
"Oh yeah," Gilbert smirked, effortlessly crossing the space between them and pulling Anne's pyjama top over her blushing head. Despite their time together, Anne never lost her bashfulness, something that Gilbert found inexhaustibly cute. "We'll simply have to combine our showers into one."
Anne exploded into giggles, hitting him on the arm. "Gilbert Blythe! What happened to the gentleman I met all those years ago in the woods?"
Gilbert only grinned, giving no warning except for a wink, before picking up his tiny partner and placing her over his shoulder. Anne's giggles morphed to small squeals and squeaks as he sauntered into the bathroom, slamming the door shut with one foot.
