We all have those moments where our thoughts are jumbled, our hearts pounding, our palms sweaty.

Keith was feeling quite anxious as he sat in the passenger seat of Veronica's Jeep, a chestnut-haired boy sat at the steering wheel. Most people fear the idea of Lance behind the wheel, for Keith, it was a truly ethereal sight. Coconut trees and golden sand rushing by, Lance's golden-skin glowing in the sun, aburn-hair flowing in the breeze. Talk about boy-friend material.

What made Keith anxious right now was the fact he can't run or hide from his feelings anymore, he had to accept them and open his heart to Lance. The possibility of just being friends was long gone there was no going back now. It made him feel vulnerable.

The fact that they're going on a legit date was mind-boggling for Keith, it hadn't even fully sunk in yet. He felt like he was in a cruel dream one never wanted to wake up.

"Well don't you wanna see the world, boy? All the countries and their stars, boy?" Lance sang beautifully in tune. Another fact not many people know, Lance has the most beautiful sweet singing voice. Keith knew, of course, being the lucky guy he is.

Lance beamed a bright smile at the raven boy fiddling with his thumbs out of pure nervousness. The Cuban boy turned back to the road, his fingers tapping on the steering wheel to the beat while singing along to Troye Sivan.

"let me take you for a drive, boy. Oh, I swear you'll feel alive boy" Lance sang as his head swayed to the beat.

Keith was in such a trance. Here he was, the one and only Lance sat beside him singing a weirdly relevant song. He felt so alive it hard to believe he still was.

"All you gotta do is trust that being true and do it for the people who love you" Lance sang smooth and freely as he tapped along to the beat. His eyes lingered on the raven before shifting to the road again.

As the beat picked up so did Lance's volume. "Let's go have fun, you and me in the old Jeep!" A wide grin spread across his features as he looked to the silent boy in encouragement.

Keith rolled his eyes, his lips spread into a cute smile. He did something nobody thought he'd ever do. He joined in. Another fact, Keith also had a beautiful voice. His tone wasn't as smooth and stable as Lance's, but it was authentic, slightly raspy in an adorable, addicting way.

"Ride around town with our rifles on the front seat! Fun! You and me in the Middle East!" They both belted with careful spirit filling the Hawaiian breeze flowing through the open windows.

It was a euphoric moment for both of them. Lance was mostly shocked Keith knew the words to such a "generic overplayed pop song". as Lance imagined he would say. It wasn't something he'd usually catch Keith listening too. Perhaps there was more Lance didn't know about his childhood best friend. How many more secrets is he hiding?

The car came to a halt in a small clearing in the trees. It was a familiar view for both of them. They came here at the very start of the trip with their sisters for a swim.

As they ventured down the path, the scent of palm trees calmed Keith's nerves. The sun too, although very hot, helped his muscles rest.

"Remember to take your shoes off this time" Keith smirked, amused as the cliff-face came into view. They strolled closer till they were standing on the edge of the anxiety-inducing cliff. A sense of adrenaline rushed through Keith's veins as he took the Latinos hand in his own and turned to the boy.

A hint of fear flashed through Lance's eyes, but as soon as their hands met, he felt the world slip away. It was only the two of them at that moment.

"On three" The raven spoke softly, searching the other boy's eyes for disapproval.

"One" Lances eyes dropped down to the rocks below.

"Two" He watched the water roll off the uneven surface.

"Three" He took one last glance at the pale boy beside him. His heart sped up at the calm, violet eyes gazing back at him. He nodded to Keith with a weak smile.

"Go" The air rushed past the two as they plunged into the crystal surface below. There was no turning back now, again.

The surface broke as Lance's head popped up from the water. He glanced around before his heart started to pound, panic arose over him. They'd let go of each other's hands.

"Keith? Fuck. Keith??"

The raven was nowhere in sight.

Panic rose in his chest, constricting his airways as if he was suffocating on fear and worry.

"What if he's hurt? What if he drowned? Shit, what if the mermaids stole my Keith!?" Lance was on a train of irrational thoughts, his brain making up unrealistic scenarios. Is anyone surprised?

He gasped, a pale hand grabbing his foot and dragged him down. He hurriedly held his breath as hands wrapped around his neck. He instinctually opened his eyes, still holding his breath underwater.

Keith.

Keith wrapped his legs around Lance's waist as they floated to the surface.

"Keith fucking Kogane!"

The boy known as 'Keith fucking Kogane' grinned a grin of pure mischief and pride. Lance's face twisted in mild anger from the heart-attack he was sure he was about to have. His hands wrapped around the boys back to hold him up against him. Not without removing a hand to slap the boy's shoulder.

"I thought the mermaids took you or something!"

Keith chuckled, throwing his head back momentarily. The sound echoed in Lance's ears sweetly, but he still managed to pout dramatically.

"Sure Lance, gotta watch out for those tourist hunting mermaids. I hear they like Latino's by the name of Lance" The dripping sarcasm went unnoticed as the gullible boy started to panic again glancing below the surface of the water. Keith facepalmed, not even surprised.

He wasn't sure why he loved this boy, but it was no use denying how he felt now.

For the first time in a while, everything between him and Lance felt clear. All the tension felt between them was gone. They'd never been this close. It seemed they were avoiding something in each other, more like their feelings for the other.

After years of confusion, it was clear that this is love.
