She waited up on the old hill, but nobody came. Figures... The girl stumbled down the hill, sighing as her feet slid down the still damp grass. Why wouldn't he show up? He had no other plans, right? He really needed this too..
Mahiru scratched her head, pulling out her phone and dialing a number.
Brrrrrr...
Brrrrrr...
Brrrrrr...
"S-s-sorry Koizumi-san!" The voice said between breaths. Mahiru sighed but smiled at how sincere her boyfriend was. "It's alright. It's unlike you to be late, so you were probably busy and I can tell you're running cause of the panting and the honking cars. You're pretty considerate, but you should never keep a lady waiting!" The voice laughed.
"I see you!" Mahiru turned, catching her boyfriend's eyes. Hajime was standing, panting at the corner. "Hey Koizumi-san! Sorry to keep you waiting. Here!" Hajime handed her a thick bouquet of flowers and a medium sized box.
"Thanks Hinata-kun..but that's not what I'm here for..." Hinata looked at his girlfriend questionably. "Hinata....I like you and we've been together for a whole year now, but we've both lost interest over the months. You saw this coming as much as I did." Hajime's face fell, his arms dropping to his sides.
"What....?" Mahiru scratched her head. "I...think we should break up...it's better for both of us. I'm sorry I had to do this now, but I just think this is better for us. Goodbye Hinata-kun. Let's stay friends." Mahiru walked away, clutching her camera to her chest. She regretted what she did, but she knew she had to. Afterall, it wouldn't be fair of her to still date Hajime if she loved someone else.
Hajime's knees gave in and he dropped to the ground. He couldn't find it in himself to cry, but he could feel tears develop in his eyes. Why..? Why did she break up with me? I've kept interest all our time and I've done everything to be with her! Why? Hajime propped himself up, rubbing his eyes and sniffling a bit.
"Eh? Hinata-kun?" Hajime turned around, spotting his best friend, Chiaki Nanami. "Ah, Nanami-san. What's up?" Chiaki was busy on her game girl, but could hear everything Hajime said. "Nothing much. I came here to relax a bit, but found you here instead. Wanna head to a net cafe? I'm bored." Hajime smiled, joining his friend. "Sure, let's go."
Hajime and Chiaki walked to the nearest Net Café, Hajime having to make sure Chiaki didn't get hit by any ongoing cars. She really zones out when playing games, huh? he thought. They entered the small shop and sat down at a couple of computers. "So..wanna play some 2 player online games? They're really fun. We can play Cards Against Humanity!" Nanami suggested. Hajime obliged, knowing that Cards Against Humanity was one of Nanami's favorite multiplayer games as far as entertainment wise.
Hajime invited Kazuichi, Gundham, Fuyuhiko, and Peko to play online with them, which they accepted. They played for awhile, until it began to get dark. "Nanami-san...we should probably head back, alright? I'll take you back home and tell Tsumiki, okay?" Nanami slowly nodded, yawning as she shut off the computer. Hajime knew well that she would stay up all night and play games if Mikan didn't stop her. They had that sort of relationship. Chiaki reassured her and Mikan advised her.
Hajime had longed for that with Mahiru, but she might've been right when she had said they weren't right for each other. If she wasn't the one, then who is? Hajime sighed as he walked Chiaki to her house, thanking her for setting his mind at ease and saying hi to Mikan.
Hajime walked to his own house, kicking pebbles as he walked. The cars streamed by, but Hajime couldn't seem to hear them. He couldn't help but wonder what he did wrong, or if he did anything at all. How are we supposed to continue as friends?
Hajime sighed as he unlocked his door. The lights were all off and Hajime didn't bother turning them on. If he was being honest, he just wanted to shower and sleep. He had never been broken up with before. Actually, he had never had a girlfriend before Mahiru, (although he had a boyfriend before) so having his first breakup was depressing. What was worse was that he didn't know what he did. He had thought he did a good job of cherishing her, but maybe that came off as clingy?
As much as he hated to think about it, Hajime kept replaying her words as he hopped into the shower, letting the warm water run over his skin. I guess it was just me...I shouldn't get so depressed over this anyway...it's not the worst thing in the world, even if it hurts..
After Hajime's shower, he quickly dried off and changed into clean clothes, discarding his usual uniform for a pair of dark jeans and a light green hoodie. Hajime was going out tonight. And he wasn't sure if he wanted to go back.
