Stefan's P.O.V.
My knee hasn't stopped moving all period. It's just been going up and down. I know Scott's noticed it, he's been glancing at my leg the entire period, thinking I don't notice. It's probably annoying him. But I can't help it, I can't focus. I keep looking at the clock every 5 seconds, waiting for the bell to ring. I've been sitting her for 10 minutes. There's still 38 more to go. I can't focus. I haven't taken a single note. I don't even know what the teachers saying, let alone what we're learning about. It's my senior year though, it doesn't really matter. Plus, my grades are fine.
"Dude. You need to stop that." Scott hisses in my ear.
"I can't help it. This class is taking forever to end." I whisper.
"It's just started. Maybe it wouldn't take so long if you stop looking at the clock and actually pay attention." Scott whispers back.
"Mr. McCall, Mr. Salvatore, am I interrupting something?" The teacher says. Catching our, and the entire classes attention.
I clear my throat, and in my "student voice" I say,
"No sir. I was just asking Scott if he had any water. I'm parched, and I didn't want to miss this lecture. He doesn't have any, so would you mind if I went to get a drink of water quickly?"
Mr. Saltzman looks at me, stunned. I know when to use my teacher voice, it's a mix of charm and a responsibility sound to it. It always works. Teachers expect the worst from me since I'm on the baseball team, but I love proving them wrong.
"Um... um... sure. Sure. Go ahead. Be back soon though, we're about to start a lecture." Mr. Saltzman stutters, still in shock.
"Thank you, Mr. Saltzman." I say, quickly getting up.
I don't want to go back to class. Now that I think about it, I could actually use a drink of water. But, I'm going to take as long as I can. I walk to the farthest water fountain from my class. Just as I'm about to go back to class, I see the clock says I've only spent 5 minutes away from class, so I go to the bathroom. I have my phone, I can just sit there for a little bit.
-
Elena's P.O.V.I pace down the hallways, walking as fast as I can. I peer at each door number, seeing that I get farther and farther from the class I'm supposed to be in. Why does this school have to be so big? I'm already 15 minutes late, but I need to be there for at least part of class, otherwise I might get marked absent. I don't want my parents to think I'm ditching class on the first day. That's not who I am. But still, the teachers here wouldn't know that. I turn a corner, looking at all the room numbers down this hallway, still not the room I'm looking for. I turn another corner and I hit something hard. Did I seriously just run into a wall?
"I'm sorry." I hear the familiar voice from someone I met earlier today, not that there's been a lot of people. It a low, husky voice. Belonging to someone younger, so it's luckily not the principal. It's a nice voice. And it's definitely a person. A strong person too.
I look up to see who the voice belongs to, and I'm met with those beautiful, deep, piercing, and caring light green eyes from the guy who bumped into me earlier today. All I can do is stare at those eyes, my mouth open. I can't seem to get a word out.
-
Stefan's P.O.V.I wait for her to speak, wanting to hear her voice. When she doesn't, I try to make a joke to break the tension.
"We've got to stop meeting like this." I tease.
She chuckles. She's still nervous, but I can't help but smile at her chuckle. She's looking at me. Unsure whether or not she should speak. Her eyes are frantic. And she's breathing heavily. But not because of me like other girls would. I'm guessing it has to do with that piece of paper in her hands she's clutching so tightly.
"Do you need help?" I ask, motioning towards her paper.
"Um... yeah. I can't find my history classroom."
She says, her voice soft. Her voice is so smooth, angelic. It matches her. It's very soothing too. I wish she would talk more. Her expression has slightly relaxed. She's warming up to me. I know it.
"Oh! Um... Mr. Salz... Mr. Salt... Mr-" She says, not quite able to pronounce his name. However, I am all to familiar with it.
"Mr. Saltzman?"
"Yes! Oh my gosh. Such a bizarre name." She says, smiling and pushing her hair back. Her hair falls right back in its place as if it was never touched so smoothly. Her glossy hair catching the light when it moves. I snap out of it when I realize I'm staring. I'm really going to have to get better about that before she thinks I'm a total creep.
"I was actually just headed that way. I'm in his class too. It's on the other side of the school though... and upstairs." I laugh, trying to make a joke, while also trying not to make her suspicious on why I was so far from class.
"So... I was nowhere close to it?" She smiles.
"Basically." With that, we both start laughing. She has such a pretty laugh.
"I'm Elena." Elena! Finally! A name!
"What a beautiful name." I say. Using all the charm I can gather.
"Thank you. It was my grandmothers." She says, slightly uncomfortable again. The use of the past tense "was" let's me know that I shouldn't have said that, and that this is a weird and depressing conversation to be having. I quickly change the subject.
"Nice. My name's Stefan." I say, offering her my hand to shake. She takes it, hesitantly, and shakes it. Her grip of soft, so is her hand. I'm not gripping her hand very tightly either, so as not to seem weird.
"It's nice to meet you, Stefan." She says. I like it when she says my name. What is wrong with me! Ugh. I'm annoying myself right now! But still, I can't beat myself up in front of her for being a total dork.
"It's nice to meet you too." I say.
We start walking to class, trying not to accidentally bump into each other. She's not waking very fast, and I'm matching her pace. It's silent. Neither of us have spoken. I don't think either of us know exactly what to say. We're still feeling out the situation.
"So... you're new here?" I say, wanting to badly to talk to her. To learn about her. For her to warm up to me.
"Yeah." That's it? YEAH?! Ugh. This is going to be harder than I thought.
"Where'd you move from?" I ask, trying to her her to speak. But as we turn the corner, I know we're almost there and our brief conversation will have to stop all together.
"Beacon Hills. It's another small town. It's in California though." She says. Again, not a good subject to start off with. But I don't want to stop here. I slow down my pace, and she unwittingly reflects it.
"So... you moved from a small town in a warm state, to another small town is a less warm state... on the tower side of the country?" I say, a chuckle in my voice.
"Yeah, yeah, I guess. It was my parents. My mom got a job here. I didn't really have a say in it." She says. Slightly laughing at my laugh. I've lightened the mood. It's not as somber anymore.
"Ok then... well... are you liking it in Mystic Falls so far?" I ask. Hoping for a positive answer.
"Well... I don't really know it well enough. But... some things are turning out pretty good." She says, I'm looking forward, but out of the corner of my eyes I can see her look up and smile at me. I look down at her right as she looks forward again. I can see her blushing. I'm smiling. I stop.
"This is it, I say. The gates of hell." I say, looking at her.
"Hell?" She says, laughing. I can hear the concern behind her laugh though. She's not that good at hiding it.
"I'm kidding. The teacher can just be... overbearing sometimes."
"Good to know." She says.
"Mr. Salvatore, you said you would be right back. You were gone for 25 minutes. What took you so-" He says, turning to see Elena's embarrasses smile.
"Mr. Saltzman, this is Elena..."
"Gilbert." She fills in my sentence.
"This is Elena Gilbert, she's your new student. I ran into her on my way back to class, she was lost, I was just trying to help." I say, using my teacher voice again.
"Oh... well... thank you, Mr. Salvatore. Miss Gilbert, it's nice to meet you, please take a seat, I believe there is one behind Mr. Salvatore that is open." He says. I inwardly smile, knowing she'll be sitting behind me all year, and I'll have her close to me.
I walk over to my seat, Elena behind me. Scott smiles and gives me a thumbs up. I scold him, slightly shaking my head, he looks forward.
As I'm sitting there and Mr. Saltzman starts his lecture back up again. I can't help but smile. We were talking for 15 minutes? And I finally know her name now too. I'm getting somewhere with her. I know it. This is going to be the start of something long and amazing... I just know it.

Authors note:I hope you like this chapter! I'm trying to make them as long as possible, but I'm still kind of easing into everything! And I know that this chapter and the last one were spaced apart, but, I'm in school and it's kind of hard to write, I'm writing whenever I have time and inspiration. Also, I'm trying to make the chapters longer, but it gets hard sometimes. I know that this chapter and the last one both started with "first", so idk if that will become a regular thing or not, but for now, those are the only chapter titles I could come up with. Please enjoy, share it, keep reading, and follow me on Instagram: @stellijah for another AU, and to know when I post a new chapter! Thank you so much for reading, I really hope you're enjoying it so far! Also, I don't want Stefan to come off as creepy, I just want to convey that he really likes Elena, and hopefully that will become even more apparent as the story processes! Ok, I'm done talking now!
