"Regret"

R E G R E T

It is the unsaid "Hello"
that could have stopped you from turning
into a complete stranger in someone's eyes.

It is the unsent letter
that would have made a person stay
if you had not been such a coward.

It is the unpublished book
that could have changed the world
if it only reached the leaders' bookshelves.

It is the unsung song
that should have been heard
by a teenager before he ended his life.

It is the rarest moment
that you were not able to take a picture of
because you left your camera.

It is the two-second gap
that occurred in a car accident
that could have saved the victims' lives.

It is the last birthday party of a friend
that you chose to miss
because of a busy schedule.

It is the text message
that you preferred to delete
because of your pride.

It is the "I love you"
that you did not utter because
you didn't know that it would be the last one.

Regret—

as they say,
is such a short word,

but it can last longer
than forever.
