The next morning Billie goes out to get us breakfast and I FaceTime Luca to tell him the news.
Billie asked me to come to her house during the break and after fighting about it I gave in to her. I now have to tell Luca and pray he won't be upset. This is what worries me the most. Sneaking around with Billie and always having to tiptoe around Luca's feelings is bound to get draining. I pace around the room with my phone in my hand until I finally get enough courage to call.
He answers after two rings and his smiling face appears on my screen. "Morning babe."
"Good morning. How did you sleep," I ask.
"Pretty good. You look like you're in a good mood."
"I am."
It's now or never Alissa.
"Um Billie came home yesterday and stopped by. She also invited me to spend the break with her and her family."
"So you're going there instead of coming with me?"
"It's different Luca. She's my friend. Staying with you means taking a new step in our relationship that I'm not sure I'm ready for."
He stays silent while we stare at each other. After an agonizing minute, he finally speaks.
"Ok Alissa. Whatever you say."
I sigh. "You trust me right? You know I wouldn't hurt you on purpose."
"Yeah I know. Have fun and call me ok?"
"I will and thank you for understanding. I love you."
"Love you too. Later," he says and hangs up.
Billie is already back with our food and sits it down. She gives me a weird look that I can't really read. "So you love him?"
"Yeah I do."
She nods. "Remember, you don't have to do anything you don't want to. I'm not going to force you to be with me."
"I know. Let's uh not talk about that right now ok? I just want to enjoy our time together."
We eat our food and then get my things loaded into her car. We take the two hour drive to her house and instead of staying in the guest bedroom she has me sleeping with her and I can tell her sister is on the fence about whatever we have going on.
"Ok so are you ready for part two of your gift," Billie asks as we sit on her floor playing video games.
We've been at her house now for about an hour.
"The necklace was enough. I can't accept all this stuff," I whine.
"Yes you can. Come on get up," she holds out her hand and I take it.
"Keep your eyes closed ok," Billie says as she holds my hands and leads me downstairs.
