Months later

"Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Mila. Happy birthday to you," Billie sings softly. It's midnight and we lamely stayed up to sing to her even though she's asleep.

Moments like this make me realize how life has a funny way of throwing curve balls at you. A little over two years ago I thought this moment would be shared with Harley, but here I am happily with Billie. She has stepped up and become like a second mom to Mila, and they adore each other. I never thought we would be together again because of the way things ended, but she is truly my person.

Our second "first" date solidified how we felt about each other in more ways than one. Billie has worked hard everyday since then to prove how much she loves me. She calls and texts often, and we go on many dates. She even turned her tour into somewhat of a residency like in Vegas. Billie was willing to upset her fans by only having her shows in LA just so we wouldn't have to be apart for months. Lucky for her the fans actually accepted the idea.

All her effort made me decide that we should be in one house together, so I gave up my apartment and moved in with her. Everything is perfect now and my heart finally feels whole.

"Are you positive you don't want to throw her a party," she asks for the millionth time as we leave Mila's room.

"Yeah I mean it's not like she'll remember it, plus it will be mostly adults. We should just stick to the zoo."

"Whatever you want mama," she kisses me sweetly.

Hours later we are dressed for what I hope will be a fun day at the zoo. We load up the car and I turn on some kid friendly music for Mila to keep her happy. A hour into the drive I realize she is not taking us to the zoo at all.

"Bil we must have taken a wrong turn because we've been driving for a hour," I complain while trying to get the gps to load.

"Relax baby. Maybe I want to take my girls somewhere special first."

I glare at her and she laughs. "You can never stick to the plan can you?"

She ignores me and turns into a cute little neighborhood. "I thought we could do some sightseeing."

"In the suburbs?"

She shrugs. "We can pretend we're on HGTV or some shit."

"You're so stupid," I laugh as she pulls into a driveway. "Billie you can't pull into people's driveways like this."

"It's new," she points to the sign in the yard. "Doesn't this look like that house you showed me a few months ago?"

I stop fussing at her long enough to realize it looks exactly like the house from the pictures. It's even cuter in person. The grass is perfectly green and there's even a swing on the porch.

"Should we go check it out?"

"Is that illegal," I ask concerned.

She smiles. "Not as long as it's unlocked. Come on."

We get out and I grab Mila from the backseat. I get goosebumps as we walk up the steps onto the porch. The house is unlocked so we take our chances and go inside.

"Oh my god," I whisper as I place Mila down letting her waddle off.

Everything I mentioned that night in bed with Billie is in this house. Every piece of furniture and art work. The color scheme, the floors, and even the light fixtures are all the same. I spin around to find Billie on one knee smiling up at me. "W-what's happening?"

She smiles nervously. "Alissa, I'm sure you know this by now, but I'm madly in love with you. You have been my biggest supporter since the day we met and I couldn't ask for more. You're my best friend, partner in crime, and lover. I don't know how I got so lucky to have a second chance at winning your heart. I'm sure I don't deserve you, but I'm grateful you're letting me share your world. I want to spend everyday making you happy and raising Mila. The night you showed me this house I knew what I had to do. Every small detail I asked you about over the past few months was to help me build your dream home. You made me realize I don't need flashy. I need a family. So please, will you do me the honor of being my wife?"

Tears pour out of my eyes as she opens the ring box making this even more real. I'm amazed that she took my dream and turned it into a reality. The way she has loved me and my daughter makes my heart smile. I couldn't imagine living my life without Billie.

"Yes," I say happily and she jumps up and swings me around.

"Bro if you would have said no I would have died right here," she laughs as she puts the ring on my finger. My hand won't stop shaking as I admire my engagement ring.

"Look how happy mommy is," she says to Mila as she swoops her up. "I think I did pretty good."

"No you did great," I beam.

"But wait there's more," she says in an animated voice. She pulls me to the back of the house and all of our friends and her parents are in the backyard cheering for us.

"You are so sneaky," I turn to her.

"I wanted them to be here for this and now Mila also gets a birthday party," she wiggles her eyebrows goofily.

We join everyone outside and they waste no time congratulating us and showering us in love.

Watching Billie go from a goofy carefree eighteen year old to a mature twenty six year old may not have been easy, but it was worth it. My heart ended up right back in her hands and I have no doubts that choosing her is the right decision.
