Chapter 36: I'm sick

"See he likes the water" I smile as I keep washing Noah with a cloth whilst Auggie, Ava and Everleigh watch me give him a bath. It around 7pm, Josh is obviously still out with his friends and I'm getting the kids ready to all take a shower so they could watch a movie and fall asleep on the couch. "I thought he was going to cry" Ava admits as she leans against the tub "Yeah, I didn't think babies liked the water" Auggie adds.

"A baby is not a dog or a cat" Everleigh giggles as she shakes her head amused at the two older kids. "Some babies might not like taking a bath but Pumpkin loves it, don't you?" I tickle his stomach earning me a wide grin. "Is he still sick?" Auggie asks making me sigh and nod, "Yeah" I breathe out and lift my hand to caress Noah's soft brown hair. "He still has a fever but its slowly going down" I say with sad smile, "Let's hope a nice warm bath will make him feel better".

"Who's going to take their shower first?" I ask my gaze lifting from my son to the three kids. They all look at each other "Not me" they all say making me chuckle, "The faster you take it, the faster we can all watch a movie with popcorn and the cookies Mimi left" I remind them. It was a little disappointing knowing that everyone was out on a date, even Amy and Alan and that I was stuck with the kids, don't get me wrong I absolutely love them but having a romantic date night with Josh sounds great.

They argue with each other for a while until I suggest they play rock, paper, scissor to finally settle their argument. Auggie ends up losing so he goes to the second bathroom upstairs, the one that'll be Noah's when he gets older, that is if we don't move houses. I finish giving Noah a bath and the girls help me put away all his toys and join me to his room to get him dressed.

They both ask me a bunch of questions about him and being a mom all while I dry him with his towel, rub him with some baby lotion, put him in a clean, fresh diaper and finally into a long sleeve onesie. When I'm done, Auggie comes over to us since he finished his shower, Everleigh is the next one to go take one and whilst she does that the rest of us head downstairs. I place Noah in his swing, my heart breaking in the process when I realise that he soon won't be able to fit in it anymore.

I help Auggie and Ava with the pullout couch, turning it into a bed. They go grab a bunch of pillows and blankets, having a mini pillow fight session whilst making their bed. I roll my eyes playfully and head to the kitchen to make some popcorn for them as well as take out some glasses and the carton of milk to drink with the cookies.

"Ava your turn!" I hear Everleigh yell along with her quick little footsteps. "Guys pick out the movie! As soon as Ava's done we're watching it" I say putting everything on a tray. I carry it to the living room placing it on the coffee table, "Don't touch anything yet" I warn them as I walk back to the kitchen.

I glance at Noah making sure he's alright but a frown takes over my face when I find him with a runny nose. "Oh baby" I sigh quickly going to grab a baby wipe to wipe his nose. I've been going after a bunch of his boogers all day long due to his nose behind stuffed, poor baby got a really bad cold. "I got you Pumpkin" I mumble wiping it clean and making sure to get some of it out, although he hates it and just starts shaking his head. I hold onto his cheeks to keep him from moving and quickly wipe everything, he whines and grabs onto my hands wanting me to let go but when I don't he starts crying.

"I know I'm sorry sweetheart" I coo letting go of him and caressing his cheek, "Mama had to get the boogers" I unstrap him and pick him up, hugging him to my chest. "Mama's sorry" I apologise kissing his cheek a few times. I walk back to the kitchen to get the popcorn, letting Noah whine against me as I head back to the living room turning the lights off as I go.

"Auggie can you turn on these lamps" I point, before placing the bowl of popcorn down. I take a seat on the other couch, getting myself comfortable as I reach for a blanket to wrap around Noah and I. Ava comes down seconds later, jumping on the couch, with a bright smile on her face, "Let's watch a movie!" She exclaims excitedly.
