Chapter 25: Riley's birthday

"Happy birthday day to you!" We finish singing letting my best friend blow the candle on her birthday breakfast making all of us cheer. She smiles brightly glancing at her family, probably thrilled that she's finally seventeen like the rest of her friends.

"Now can we eat?" Auggie asks impatiently as he stares at his plate filled with 2 pancakes coated in Nutella and whipped cream. "Yes, now you can eat" Topanga chuckles making her son instantly dive into his breakfast.

It was a tradition in the Matthew's family to have a breakfast birthday celebration, I didn't know why but from the many years I've been with them I came to a conclusion that they just love their breakfast and it puts you in a good mood so you start of your birthday with an awesome meal.

"So what's your plan for today?" Cory asks curiously "How are you going to start your first day as a seventeen year old?" He questions before his smile falls and he quickly glances at Topanga "Can you believe it, our little girl is seventeen!" He exclaims "I feel like just yesterday you came into this world and blessed us all" he says with a sad smile looking back at his daughter.

"Where does time go?" He sighs as I hold onto Noah a little tighter, before I know it it'll be Noah's 17th birthday.

"Well" Riley starts with a grin "Maya and I are going to spend the morning at the mall hanging out together and then we're going to go get some stuff for the party tonight, come back here to set up and get ready" she explains.

"Now remember you have the apartment to yourself so that means you're going to be in charge, anything that'll happen will be your responsibility" Topanga reminds her as I bite my lip to contain my excitement.

Topanga and Cory were going out on a date night and possibly crashing at a hotel since they were going to stay out pretty late. Auggie was sleeping over at Ava's and my parents were going to watch Noah for a few hours. That meant we could do whatever we wanted tonight and I can't wait for the fun we're about to have.

Tonight I wanted to be reminded what it felt like being a 17 year old. I've been so caught up with all the responsibilities that came with being a mother that tonight I just want to let go a bit and have some fun. Of course I won't be drinking but that doesn't mean I won't be dancing my ass off and having a great time.

"Yes I know mom" Riley rolls her eyes making me stifle a laugh, I knew exactly what the brunette was going to do and that's to get drunk obviously relying on me or Lucas if he doesn't drink too much, to take care of her. High school definitely changed Riley from being an innocent little girl to a more mature goofball. She wanted to try everything which led to her learning more about the world we live in and she matured but there was always those moments where she acted like a complete child, but that's just who Riley is and I love everything about her.

"Are you two taking Noah?" Topanga asks smiling at the baby in my arms who's sitting on my lap happily playing with a plastic giraffe named Sophie. He really likes chewing on her and that makes him drool so obviously my arm is covered in his saliva.

"Mhm" I nod, "Josh is going to drive us to the mall and whilst Riley and I shop around, Josh is gonna be with Noah and meet up with some of his friends. He then will join us to have some lunch, which is when Ranger Rick is gonna show up and eat with us too" I explain.

"After eating we'll go buy the things we need and head back here. We'll get everything ready, Josh will drop Noah off at Maya's parents and then BAM party time!" Riley finishes with a grin.

"Well you seem like you both have a full day ahead of you" Riley nods, humming in response as she takes a forkful of her pancakes. "Maya eat" Josh says catching my attention, I look down at my plate and notice I've only had 2 bites. "I'm not that hungry" He glares at me and shakes his head, "Not an excuse" he argues "Hand me Pumpkin and eat" I want to argue with him but I know he's just looking out for me plus I don't really want to cause a scene.
