"Pauly!"

Pauly walked into the room, knowing that her best friend was completely unaware that she was just across the hall and there was no need to yell her name. She said, "Yes?"

Cher pulled a tank top back on after she placed the final costume on top of the others on the table. She sighed as she sat down on the adjacent couch with silent tears rolling down her cheeks. She said, "Why aren't these fitting right? They fit perfectly a week and a half ago."

Quickly realizing that her friend was crying, she made her way to the couch and sat down. She placed her hand on Cher to make sure that she wasn't going to try to move away if she hugged her. She placed her arm around Cher's shoulders and said, "Come here."

She leaned into her friend, the tears still coming down and now landing on Pauly's shirt. Pauly leaned her head down and gently placed it on Cher's. She said, "So they don't fit right?"

She paused as she felt her friend nod her head, "We can have them adjusted a little bit, problem solved sweetheart."

Pauly lifted her head and looked at Cher. She said, "Why are you still crying? Is there something else wrong?"

She could tell that something else was wrong but she wanted Cher to tell her on her own terms. After seeing Cher just shrug her shoulders, she moved slightly and pat her lap, telling Cher to lay her head down. She gently ran her fingers through Cher's hair before Cher spoke. Her tears had slowed down and said, " I have been the same size for over twenty years, why would they need to be adjusted now?"

She honestly didn't know why they would. She said, "I don't know. Are you feeling anything else?"

Cher nodded, kind of slowly, thinking about how to word the other things she had been feeling. She started, "I've been more tired lately. I've had some back pain, where I've actually had to put pillows behind my back to sleep."

She paused briefly before she continued, "I've even had some nausea, but it usually subsides within the hour."

Pauly nodded as her friend talked. After Cher had finished, she said, "It's sounds like it might be a little stress since you have been so busy lately."

She paused, " Luckily, you have the next few days off. You should take those days to just relax and you'll feel better in no time."

Cher, now in a better mood than before, laughed and said, "Yes Dr. Paulette."

They talked for a few more hours before Pauly had to leave. She had made her way into her kitchen since she was going to make dinner. As soon as she began looking for what she could make, the nausea came back in full force. Her focus quickly shifted to finding some crackers that she knew she had. She said to herself, "Where are those damn crackers?"

She was relieved when she found an unopened sleeve of saltine crackers. She left the kitchen with the crackers and laid down on the couch in the living room. She turned on the television and found a movie to watch. The nausea had subsided and before she knew it, she had fallen asleep. She was woken up forty-five minutes later when the nausea came back. She sat up and ate a few more crackers. She didn't have any idea why she was feeling like that, but suddenly coming to the realization of the last time she had all the same symptoms. She thought, "It can't be that. It's impossible, I'm too old for that."

After thinking about it for a while, she decided that it would never hurt to take the test. At least it would rule something out. She stood up from the couch and began pacing the room, unsure of how she was going to get the pregnancy test. It would be quite odd if she went and got it for herself. After a few more minutes, she grabbed her phone and texted the one person she get to do it for her without asking any questions. Pauly. She texted, "I know you just left not too long ago, but I need you to come back. On your way, could you buy a few pregnancy tests. Don't ask."

Pauly looked at her message when she felt her phone vibrate. After reading it, this was the one time she decided not to question her best friend. She replied, "Yeah, I'll be there thirty minutes."

Forty minutes later, Cher and Pauly were sitting on the edge of the tub, waiting for the results of the tests. After a few minutes and the timer went off, Pauly looked at her and said, "It's time."

Cher stood up and started to walk towards the counter before she went and sat back down next to Pauly. She said, "I can't do it. Can you do it for me? Please."

She nodded and stood up. She walked over to the counter and looked at the tests. She heard Cher say, "What do they say?"

She looked at them once more before she looked back towards her and said, "They're uh. They're uh."
