I Dream Of You

Chapter Three

 Cher slowly woke up, she slept really well after her talk with Meryl. She had briefly thought that the day before was all a dream, but she knew that it wasn't. After a few minutes, she finally got out of bed and was going to head out of her bedroom, only to stop in front of her full length mirror. She stood so her left side was facing the mirror. She pushed her shirt just enough so she could see her lower stomach. She said to herself, "Nope, nothing yet."

She knew that it wasn't possible for her to be showing yet, but she still felt like looking anyways. She put her shirt down and continued to walk out of her room. After making it to the living room, she decided that she should schedule the appointment with her doctor to make sure that she got in before the day was over with. After getting off the phone and telling Pauly what time it was at, she set a reminder for the time it was at. She was glad that she got the last appointment of the day, that way she could avoid most of the paparazzi that would mostly be out during the day. After she hung up the phone, she walked towards the kitchen, hoping to make breakfast without getting nauseous.

After a few moments of looking for a few moments, she decided on eggs and toast. She took her time eating since she wasn't in a rush. She was done about twenty minutes later, she was happy that the food hadn't made her nauseous. She cleaned her dishes before walking back into the living room. She wanted to relax before anyone came over, figuring that neither Pauly or Meryl would be over for a while. She relaxed as she sat down on the couch. She turned on the television and flipped through a few channels before she found a movie that she wanted to watch.

The movie was almost over when she heard her phone go off. She picked it up to see that Meryl had texted her that she would be there in about thirty minutes. She hadn't realized that it was already after ten o'clock in the morning. The movie had just ended when she heard her doorbell ring. She got up from the couch and made her way over to the door. She looked through the peephole to confirm her suspicions that it was Meryl and she was right. She opened the door and smiled at her friend. She let her inside and shut the door before pulling her in for a hug.

Meryl set her stuff down before she walked with Cher over to the couch. She shook her head when she heard Cher offer her something to drink. She said, "No thanks, I'm fine right now."

They sat down on the couch as Cher said, "Okay."

Meryl smiled at her before she said, "Did you make the appointment for today?"

She nodded and said, "Yeah, it's at 4:30 this afternoon."

Meryl chuckled lightly and said, "Good."

Hours passed before Pauly came over around three o'clock to spend time with Cher before they went to the appointment. She was quite surprised when she saw that Meryl was with Cher. She smiled and hugged her after she had hugged her best friend. She said, "What are you-"

She cut herself off before realizing that Cher had probably called her. She chuckled and said, "She called you didn't she?"

Meryl nodded and laughed back, "Yep, at 2 o'clock in the morning Connecticut time."

A hour had passed before they knew it since they were having a good time in each others company. They had to leave so they could get to the appointment on time. They were all kind of surprised that they got there and into the building without being spotted. Cher signed herself in before sitting down next to Meryl and Pauly. She wouldn't admit it but she was kind nervous about this appointment. Before she knew it, she was pulled out of her thoughts by her name being called by the nurse.

The nurse took her weight and vitals before she informed her that Dr. Martin would be there shortly. She sat on the exam table as she watched Pauly and Meryl sit in the adjacent chairs. A few minutes later the doctor was knocking on the door before she entered. Dr. Jennifer Martin was a brunette woman in late forties. She smiled at Cher before said her hellos to all of them. She turned her attention back to Cher before she said, "So what brings you in today?"

Cher said, "Uh, I took four pregnancy tests last night and they were all positive."

Dr. Martin nodded and said, "Any other symptoms?"

She nodded and said, "I've been more tired lately, as well as some back pain and nausea."

She nodded once more before she said, "We'll do some tests then we'll do the ultrasound."

Fifteen minutes later the results of the tests were handed to Dr. Martin. She looked them over before she said, "The pregnancy test came back positive. The blood test are showing elevated hCG levels, which also confirms the pregnancy."

Cher was kind of shocked by the results, despite knowing that they were true. She said, "How is this still possible? I am way too old for this."

Dr. Martin figured that the results were probably going to shock Cher. She said, "You have an extremely healthy uterus. Have you had unprotected sex recently?"

She said, "Well obviously, otherwise I wouldn't be pregnant. We're both clean and I was almost completely sure that I was way too old to still get pregnant."

Sensing that Cher was starting to freak out, both Meryl and Pauly grabbed her hand. Dr. Martin had sensed it as well, so she took the moment to shift the subject slightly. She said, "Why don't we do the ultrasound now. It's the last thing that needs to be confirmed. Why don't you lay back and push your shirt up."

Cher nodded and laid back against the exam table. She rolled her shirt up, that way it would stay up while the ultrasound was done. She put her hand back down and smiled slightly when she felt them grab it again. It was nice to know that they were here for her. Dr. Martin said, "This will be kind of cold."

She shivered when she felt the gel be applied to her lower stomach. She looked towards the monitor when she saw her doctor start using the ultrasound doppler on her lower stomach. A smile graced her lips when saw the shape of her baby. Dr. Martin said as she pointed to the screen, "There's your baby. You're right around five weeks along."

She turned to see that Meryl and Pauly were smiling too. She turned her attention back she heard Dr. Martin start to speak again. She said, "Would you like to hear the heartbeat?"

Cher nodded and said, "Yeah."

She watched Dr. Martin flip as switch on the monitor. A few seconds later the heartbeat could be heard. It wasn't long before she smiled with happy tears running down her cheeks as the strong heartbeat filled the room.

It was only moments later when Pauly and Meryl had happy tears brimming their eyes.
