3rd-Person POV:

Qrow carefully closed Ruby's eyes before picking the small girl's body up from the rubble, not even looking at his sister as he turned to her. Letting out a breath, Raven unsheathed her blade and slashed, the crimson portal opening up in front of them. She watched as he stepped through, following him into the swirling red. The first thing she saw was Atlesian soldiers pushing Crane into a Bullhead when a white blur flew over the soldiers and cars, Summer landing on the ground when she got through to them.

Summer: Did you fin-

Her voice stopped as soon as she saw Ruby, tears swelling almost immediately.

Summer: No.

Qrow, his own tears falling, walked slowly over to his wife and lowering his daughter's body to the ground. Summer clutched Ruby to her as she sobbed.

Summer: Ruby! No!

Qrow: I'm sorry, Summer. I'm so sorry.

Summer: What happened?!

Qrow tried to find the words, but they died in his throat as his wife wept over their daughter's body.

Timeskip:

Joker, Bane, and all of the others had disappeared without a trace after that night, but the threat of another attack hung over everyone like a dark cloud, similar to those hovering over the island of Patch.

Rain poured down on the Brawnwen-Rose homestead as dozens of people arrived. Inside the house, Qrow sat with a silent Summer, both holding onto the other as if they'd disappear. Yang sobbed quietly as Blake and Weiss tried to console her while crying themselves. Penny walked up to them, Yang looking up with tears in her eyes. The android, kneeling in front of them, took Yang's hands in her own and the blonde brawler clutched tightly, tears rolling down her face as she clenched her eyes shut.

Behind them, Jaune was barely holding himself together as a wheel-chair bound Pyrrha tried to process it all. Ren and Nora turned their sights back to the coffin, already feeling the cracks showing in their friends. Sun, actually wearing a full tuxedo, sat close to Neptune while he tried to convince himself that it wasn't real, but reality brought him back every time he looked at the coffin.

Coco, holding her beanie with her sunglasses in her purse, tried to comfort a crying Velvet as Fox tried to help. She only managed to calm down when Yatsuhashi gently embraced her, the others soon joining in.

Ozpin and the other teachers watched with sorrow, Professor Goodwitch struggling to keep her own tears from falling freely. Even Cardin and his team were silent, paying their respects to Ruby.

Tai, walking over to the wake, looked tearfully down at Ruby's dormant and pale face as he cursed the Joker for doing this to her... when a part of him knew that it should have been him instead.

Raven sat quietly in one of the chairs, guilt grabbing at any part of her body it could touch, an ache encompassing her entirely with every second that ticked by on the clock.

Soon enough, it was time and the gathering walked from the house into the rain with the coffin being carried by Jaune, Yatsuhashi, Yang, Penny, Sun, and Professor Goodwitch. Summer and Qrow led the congregation to the edge of a cliff where the grave already lay open and the priest waited. As the six began to lower Ruby's coffin into the earth, the priest finally spoke as a clash of thunder sounded overhead.
