Chapter 5: Hold The Rope Diagonally
---------------
Vanya and Five held each other's gazes for a few seconds before they got interrupted by a noise, coming from further down the tunnel. They let go of the other's hand and looked at the entrance of the greenhouse. A few tense seconds passed and then suddenly a little mouse ran from the tunnel. It stopped when it saw the two children but must've assumed they weren't a threat as it ran away again, towards a small hole in the opposite wall.
"Maybe we should go back. I have this weird feeling we're being watched in here... The others might've noticed we're not there and begun searching the whole city for us," Vanya said as she took Five's hand in hers before walking towards the tunnel entrance.
"You're probably right," Five chuckled as he walked beside the smaller girl, "Besides, I'm starving! I hope dinner's ready."
"Do you think the Commission will come after us?" Vanya asked suddenly, addressing a question that hadn't left her head since they came to the Academy.
Five had tried to forget about the Commission for a while, expelling it to the back of his mind but desperately failing. His worry was slowly eating at him.
They hadn't shown up yet, but they couldn't cheer too early. If they didn't show up now, then certainly later.
"So far, they don't know where we are in the timeline. We haven't changed something big yet so it's hard to tell our location and time. You see, they don't care about small alterations. For them, it's all about the big picture. They don't see the apocalypse as the end, merely the beginning of something new. They don't care who causes it, they just want it to happen."
"Can we stop it? For good?"
"I hope so. I don't want to have spent forty-five years in that horrid future for nothing. Anyway, I don't know what happened to Cha-cha and Hazel before the apocalypse, for all I know, they're working for the Commission again or they could be dead."
"What if the Handler is dead? Won't that stop theapocalypse?"
"No, if she's dead, then they'll just replace her. She was just one of the higher ranked influencers of the Commission. For now, we don't need to worry about it." Vanya sighed in relief. She was concerned that they'd come after her and her family to make her cause theapocalypse again. She didn't want to be the reason her family was harmed. Not again.
"Come on, we're almost at the end of the tunnel. I'm guessing Pogo isstill in the library and I'm not willing to risk anything, so we can't use theexit there. There's a hatch a little further, it leads to the courtyard." She led them past the library entrance to the hatch and carefully opened it. She opened it ajar and peeped through to see if the coast was clear.
"It's all clear, let's go," she said as she swung the hatch open fully. She submerged and once she was completely standing, she reached down to help Five out of the tunnel.
"Okay, it's almost time for dinner. Let's go inside." With that, the two went into the villa wearing twin grins on their faces.

"MOM?! Where are my knives?!" Diego yelled as he entered the kitchen. He expected his mother to be there, but strangely, she wasn't.
The teen looked at the clock that hung on the wall and saw that it was almost time for dinner. Yet, dinner was nowhere to be found.
His knives already forgotten; Diego set to find his mother. If something happened to her... Well let's say he wouldn't let something happen to her again.
