Chapter 12: To Train Them Is His Cause

---------------

"Our father, Reginald Hargreeves, is an alien!?" Luther exclaimed in disbelief.

"Mhm," Five hummed in response.

"Very funny, Five." Diego crossed his arms over his chest, his eyebrows raised as he stared at the pair. "There's no way. Where's your proof, huh?"

"Everything we've told you is written in dad's old journals. They're in my room."

"Where did you find them?" Allison asked curiously, ignoring the discussion about whether or not their dad was an actual alien.

"In an old cupboard under the stairs," Vanya answered quickly. Allison eyed her suspiciously but let it go. "We found it by coincidence."

"Five doesn't believe in 'coincidence'." Klaus sing-songed, winking playfully at his siblings.

"It doesn't matter how we found them; what matters is that we did. We'll know everything dad's been keeping from us. We'll know how to stop him."

"So, the Commission will come after us again?" Diego asked hesitantly. He had always disliked his father when they werechildren, or even in adulthood, but to find out that he was also the cause of Eudora'sdeath... He absolutely loathed him. Too bad he couldn't just fling one ofhis knives through his throat.

"Yes. There's no doubt. It's just a matter of when. That's why we need to train harder and faster and study the journals. There's a lot of vital information in them that we can use to boycott his plans."

"You're right. We do this, and we'll be two steps ahead of him." Ben chipped in, a grin broke his face and although he would never admit it to his family, he was really craving his revenge after all this time. "We should get started right away then, right?"

"Yeah sure, I'll get them." He jumped to his room to get the journals and went back to the living room. "Here." He handed out the two he and Vanya had already read.

"Don't lose them. If Pogo, mom or dad finds even a sign that we have them, we're screwed."

"Don't worry, we'll be careful." Ben and Allison were currently in possession of the two journals, knowing how irresponsible and messy the other three were with their stuff.

The usual training routine had restarted for the six siblings, Vanya excluded. She was patiently waiting in her own room, practicing a new song on her, waiting for one of her siblings to get her like they planned.

Luther, being Number One, had his training session watched by their fatherfirst. The old man was holding his current journal, one with writings the siblings didn't know about yet. His permanent frown was ever-present on his face while he flicked through the pages, scanning his own scribbles with an almost nonchalant swiftness.

Luther had always been Hargreeves' favourite. He was just so utterly useful to him. He'ddo anything for his father—would even go against his own siblings if requested.

But today...something seemed...off. He kept on glaring at his father when he thought he wasn't looking. Mr. Hargreeves found it rather unnerving how his behaviour had altered in less than a day.

"Number One, concentrate!" He went back to his journal and briskly wrote things down.

Luther huffed before repeating the same exercises for the fifth time, not doing any better than the first. A hundred push-ups followed by two hundred bench-presses. Then he took the rope and started skipping, his breath not shallowing.
