Chapter 13: With Great Power Comes Great Need To Take Naps

---------------

A figure stood in Vanya's doorway, watching her sleep. There were wires attached to her head, showing her brain activity on the little screen that the person was holding. So much activity, he hadnt seen in almost a decade; since he forced her to take those pills.

Hargreeves had ordered Grace to put a sedative into the others children's drinks so they wouldn't wake up tonight. After the whole fiasco earlier that afternoon, he didn't trust his children anymore. Neither did they trust him, it seemed, and that was even worse. They were up to something and it was of utter importance that they didn't find out about—

A groan escaped Vanya's lips. The graph on the screen jumped up and down at a dangerously high rate. Her brain activity was going haywire. A vein popped on her forehead as she subconsciously clenched her jaw, a look of struggle passing over her face.

She was waking up.

Hargreeves quickly went over to remove all the wires before she could fully wake up and realize he was there. He collected his equipment andsilently exited the bedroom, making his way to his office to spend yet anothernight analysing results and jotting them down in his journal.

Vanya blinked her eyes open, vaguely seeing a silhouette walking out of her room, closing the door. Pain erupted from her head as she tried to sit up, washing her previous worries about the silhouette away instantly. She had never felt so shitty in her entire life.

Something definitely didn'tfeel right. The pain pulsed through her entirebody with every beat of her heart. This wasn't a normal headache. She had been feeling like this all day, ever since she used her powers to light up the Mausoleum. It all went downhill from there.

She thought her solution would be to sleep it off, but even in her sleep the pain got so bad, she woke up from it. With every pulse of pain, a burning sensation followed. She had to stop herself from throwing up as she felt her face go green.

Going back to sleep was no option, she had to take some pain reliever to stop this concert of madness going on inside her head. She could recall a vague image of her dream where one of those cymbal-banging monkey toys slammed its cymbals on her head again and again and again and again.

She threw the sheets off her and slowly put one shaky leg down in front of the other. She lifted herself off the bed, immediately grabbing the bedpost to keep herself from falling. With one hand holding her head and the other grabbing things she could support herself on, she carefully made her way out of her room.

She wasn't worried about Pogo; if he saw her, she would just tell him the truth; that her head hurt like a bitch and she needed some meds as soon as possible.

Standing in her doorway, she contemplated on going right, to Five's room, or left, to the bathroom with its medicine cabinet.

He's sleeping, you shouldn't disturb him.

She turned left, not wanting to awake Five for something as silly as a headache. She ignored the voicein her head saying that 'maybe you should wake him' and that 'this isn't just anormal headache'. But unfortunately, the voice got drowned out by the overwhelmingamount of pain right now.

Her steps were small and slow, but eventually, she made it into the bathroom. Sighing in relief, she moved in front of the mirrors, the sight of her sicklyface almost making her jump. She opened the drug cabinet, sifting through every box until she found what she was looking for. She popped two painkillers into her mouth and swallowed them with a bit of water. Looking up, her reflection still was as dreadful as ever.
