~ Chapter One ~
I closed my eyes as I took a deep breathe. The fresh smell of nature surrounding me, calmed my nerves as the wind softly blew by. When I exhaled, I opened my eyes and enjoyed the view before me. I could see the never ending green before me, it was hard to distinguish whether it were tall trees or grass. I couldn't even see the small city that lay somewhere within the green mass.
I stood in one of the highest mountains here in south America. Hiking up here was not easy, but it was worth it. I'm glad I asked my parents for this trip for my eighteenth birthday.
I took a sip of water from my metal waterbottle. The cool water was a welcomed refreshment.
I took this hike along with other tourists. My parents didn't want to come because they wanted to enjoy the hotel's luxury. However, I was able to force my little sister, Marisa, to come along. She currently sat on a rock massaging her ankles and grumbling underneath her breathe. Her brown hair, like my own, was braided into two. Her front bangs stuck to her forehead thanks to her sweat.
I smiled at her as I walked towards her. She was only three years younger than me, yet she acted as if she was an old lady whining about every little thing.
I sat next to her. "Are you okay? We've been walking for the entire morning."
"I'm not okay," she grumbled as she stopped massaging her ankles and glared at me. "My face is clear of makeup, I feel naked and annoyed that the flies keep bugging me, and I've brought flats instead of proper shoes."
I rolled my eyes. "You didn't want to listen to me."
"yea yea." She waved me off and took out her own waterbottle from her little backpack.
In this moment, I took the opportunity to pull out my phone from my backpack and took a picture of us two. My sister, still upset, managed to smile with me in the picture before she went back to drinking her water. I'll post this picture on Instagram when we get back to the hotel. I'll hook up to the internet there.
I stood up and stretched after putting my phone in my back pocket of my shorts. I turned around and looked down. The rock we were sitting at was near the edge of the mountain. It felt exhilarating to be so near the edge, where another large step can take me flying to the bottom.
I shook my crazy thoughts away. I've always been such a cynic. Even the plane to South America I was thinking of all the possibilities of every tragedy that can occur. It's scary to think like that, but it gives me such a high to go wild in such a way with my imagination. I'm pretty sure everyone has had such a thought when they're high above the ground.
"Kaida, everyone is getting ready to start the hike back down. Come on." Marisa turned and started walking, without waiting for me. Obviously she's eager to go back to civilization. She's probably going to take a shower, cake her face, and flirt with some of the natives of the city. The difference between her and I is vast. It's a wonder how we're sisters, although I can't deny it because we look so alike.
I took one last gaze of the beauty before me and and silently said my goodbye. I do hope to come back here in the future. Nature is where I belong. Not in some stuffy city wondering what I'll do with my life.
I took one last refreshing breath of nature's air and quickly twirled around. But as I did so, the rock beneath my foot crumbled and made me slip.
My body is gravitating towards the edge of the cliff, pushing me backwards as my foot loses balance. I flap my arms in despair as realization comes to me.
I'm falling.
I squeal in fright, catching my sister's attention in the short span of a moment. She had turned back around but didn't move to help me. She's mobilized in shock, or fear. Whatever it is, it's the last expression I see on her pretty face before it's replaced with a blur of colors.
I fall off the mountain, twisting and turning, flapping my arms wildly, hoping to catch something. But I only seem to end up with scratches. The burning of those scratches don't matter as I turn my body downward.
As I fall, I slowly gasp for air. I'm falling way too quickly to properly suck in air. The sound of the stream calmly rushing down the side of the mountain is what I hear, besides the distant calls of my anguished sister.
I let loose my arms and fling them open at my sides. This is it. This is going to be the end of me. I close my eyes and silently hope that I will die a quick death
However, the sound of something ripping in the air has my troubled eyes opening. Yet I saw nothing as my arm gets trapped in something, yanking me upwards and sideways. A loud cry leaves my mouth as I feel my body getting sucked into the thing that got my arm.
I try opening my eyes, but I can't. The lack of air that I couldn't inhale as I fell had me losing consciousness.
All I can see now is darkness.

I quickly sat up gasping for air. My chest moves outwards and inwards as I breathe harshly. My right hand goes to my chest, feeling my heart beat a thousand miles. How in the world did I manage to survive? I was on one of the tallest mountains in the world. My body should be broken and splayed on the ground with blood coating everything.
I blink in confusion as I look around me. The trunks of the trees seem triple their size and height. No matter how my head tilts back, I barely manage to see the sky. The large branches are covered in human sized leaves blocking my view.
Back down, around me, I see bushes and fallen leaves a lot larger than they should be. Even the flowers seem to be around my height. And I'm not that tall! I'm around five feet, five inches.
A Cold chill runs down my back as I hear loud flapping noises. I once again look up and see something, through the little cracks of the trees, I've never thought possible.
A creature larger than the plants around me, flying across with wings that don't belong to a bird. A body longer than anything I've ever seen. Could that be what I think it is? There's no possible way! Mythical creatures aren't real. They only belong in movies and books.
A loud roar broke through the sky, making my body jump in fright. I no longer see the creature, but it's as if he's calling out to others. Rallying them up.
I quickly crawl backwards, ignoring the pains striking my inner muscles, and curl around the flower closest to me.
I can't let that thing see me. Although it probably couldn't see me as I'm so small. I'm probably like a ladybug to that thing.
I hold onto the stem of the flower as tightly as I can as I digest my current predicament. I'm clearly no longer in the world I once knew. The iPhone in my shorts probably won't even have reception.
I didn't magicically travel back in time, where my little to no knowledge of history could have helped me. No, I'm in a world where dragons exist.
