~Chapter 1~

"Hahahaha stop it Jeremy!" I said as my 19 year old brother pushed me higher and higher on the swings.

"It's okay Bells, I'm here if you fall", he said. After the swings we would go on the slide and then monkey bars. Whenever I was with my brother I always had fun. I wish my mom could be having this much fun, but ever since my dad died she has been very depressed. It was a shame actually, my dad's death. We knew he had cancer, but we thought that it was almost out of him. I guess it wasn't. I still miss my father and I feel like my brother is the closest link I have left to my dad. After we were done with the park, we went to go eat ice cream then came home. While driving in Jeremy's car, we started to talk.

"So you're gonna start 8th grade soon, huh?" he asked me.

"Yeah. I'm kind of scared though", I told him.

"Aw why?" he wondered out loud.

"I feel like I'm growing up too fast", I explained.

"Bell, you're only 13 years old! You have 87 more years too live! Now I don't know about you but I think that's a lot!" he joked around.

"No I already told you, I don't want to live till I'm just 100! I want to live till I'm 150!!" I joked back.

"Oh really? Well I'm gonna live till I'm 200!!" he retaliated.

"Oh yeah?" I said with a smile.

"YEAH!" he laughed. The car stopped. We were home. We raced each other inside, but stopped short to see our mom at the dinner table paying the bills.

"Hi mom" ,Jeremy and I said at the same time.

"Hello kids", our mom replied. "Isabelle, we have to go school supplies shopping soon"

"Mom do I have to start 8th grade next week?" I whined.

"Yes you do", my mom replied.

"Hey! Could I take Isabelle shopping?" Jeremy asked.

"Yes! Please mom, please!!!" I was so excited!

"Okay. Be back by 7:30, that's dinnertime!" our mom said.

"Thanks mom! Bye", Jeremy and I replied as we ran out the door and into my brother's truck.

We walked out of WalMart with bags filled of notebooks, pencils, pens, calculators, binders, folders and so much more.

As we got into the car I turned and told my brother, "You're so lucky!"

"How am I lucky?" he asked me.

"You don't have to go to school anymore", I told him.

"Being in the army is just like school, maybe even worse", he told me.

"Yeah right! All you do is sit in a tent and go on the computer all day", I replied.

"True, but it's not like I'm on Facebook or anything. I'm trying to locate the enemy", he said as he put his key into the ignition.

"When are you going back?" I asked him.

"The day before you go back to school", he said as we pulled out of the WalMart Parking Lot.

"WHAT?! I wanted you to drive me to school on the first day!" I yelled.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry Bells. I really wanted to drive you to school too, but my boss wants me in Iraq in a week", he told me with a hint of sadness in him. I couldn't forgive him for this. The whole entire summer I've been waiting up to the day when my big brother would drive me to school, and now he can't?

The tension in the car was very thick that I had to cut it because it was annoying the crap out of me.

I cut it by asking him, "Why haven't you had a girlfriend for two years now?".

As we reached a red light, he turned to me and replied,"Because then if I had a girlfriend, I wouldn't have enough time to hang out with you". The light turned green and we kept driving. Jeremy always knew the right things to say.

We came home just in time for dinner. The aroma in the kitchen smelled so good that we just dropped the WalMart bags, took off our shoes, and ran inside to the dinner table. Hmmmmm...Ham with Peas and Pasta. Jeremy and I's favorite meal! We scarfed it down in 15 minutes flat! Our mom was still eating so we just sat there, put our hands over our stomachs and let out a big sigh.

"So did you get everything you needed?" my mom asked me.

"Yeah except for one thing" I started.

"What couldn't you get?" she wondered.

"A ride from my brother on the first day", I told her.

"I already told you that I'm extremely sorry Bells", Jeremy told the table.

"Belle, you have to stop thinking that the world revolves around you. Your brother has a very important job to do for us, his family and also his country", my mom tried to explain to me, but I didn't answer and just stormed out of the kitchen, climbed up the stairs and went into my room. I slammed the door so hard that if my father was still alive, he would probably be cussing under his breath. I took my iPod out of my bedside table drawer and put the headphones in my ear. I turned it on and blasted "My Chemical Romance" into my ears.
