Chapter 13
I walk up my driveway towards my house. When I get to my door, I take my house keys out of my back pack and unlock my door. As I walk into the foyer of my house I think, "Wow. This is the first day at school, since the depressing news, that I actually survived!". I smile and then quickly remember, "MOM". She's no where on the first floor. I walk up the stairs to check her room, she's not there either. I call her on my cell phone.
"Isabelle, is everything alright?!" she answers after a few rings.
"Yes, Mom. Everything is okay," I reply.
"Oh I see what you're doing…," she says.
"Psh…what am I doing?" I joke.
"You are calling me up to make sure I am at work and I am proud to say that I am," she tells me.
"Good. How is it?" I worry.
"I've been getting a lot of 'I'm sorry's and hugs," she says with a hint of sadness in her voice.
"Yeah, I know how you feel. On my first day back I got a lot of those and I just couldn't take it anymore! It's hard," I tell her to help her feel better.
"Yes it is," she says sounding really sad.
"Mom, please don't cry," I tell her when I feel a tear come down the corner of my eye.
"It's hard not too, Bells," she says crying. I'm now crying too.
"Mom, please wipe your tears and go back to work. I have homework to do," I wipe my face dry with the sleeve of my sweat shirt.
"Thanks honey. I love you," she says sounding a little happier.
"I love you too, Mom," I say and then I hear a click that tells me that the call is over.
