Chapter 5
Out of everything we could have done, why did he choose the beach? After putting my bathing suit on me and Zach walked a bit on the boardwalk until we found an empty area to place our towels, and bags. Zach picked up the football. “Go long!” He said
I ran and ran, stopping when Zach extended his arm back, and was about to throw the ball. As the ball soared closer to me I jumped up in the air catching it in my two hands. Zach just starred, “you still got it.”
“Of course I do,” I responded tossing the ball back at him. For about five more minutes we continued throwing the football back and forth. I was started to get bored. Zach threw the ball, making it land in the water. “Really?” I questioned.
“Sorry,” he replied, showing a sincerity, even though I know he did it on purpose. I turned around to go get the ball, slowing stepping my feet into the water, it wasn’t as cold as I expected. I walked and stopped in front of the football. As I reached down to go get it, all of a sudden I heard splashing behind me, before I could turn around I was picked up and throw into the water. As I rose to the surface sticking his head up from the water was Zach. That’s it, payback time. With as much force as possible I started to splash Zach, and at the same time he started to splash me back. I got up and jumped on him sinking us both under the water. As we were under water Zach put one arm under my knees, and the other supporting my back. He stood up in the water carrying me in his and started to walk out deeper into the lake.
“Put me down!” I screamed, kicking my legs, Zach turned his head ignoring me, so I pinched his cheeks trying to get his attention. He still kept his head turned. “Zach!”
All of a sudden he dropped me into the water; I got up and started to chase him like I did the day before in the park. We got closer and closer to the shore, and when we finally reached it Zach stopped and turned around. I tried to push him over only he stood there, feet planted firmly into the sand. Zach put his hands on either side of my face and brought it closer to his own. All of a sudden his lips where on mine, and he was kissing me. I froze and pulled back starring into his eyes. What was he doing? Why was he kissing me? I wanted to kiss him back, why wasn’t I kissing him back? I was scared, that he would hurt me, was just using me. Pushing all my thoughts aside, I couldn’t help but melt at his big brown eyes. His lips started to move, “so-“but I didn’t let him finish. I leaned my lips closer to his reconnecting them together. We continued to kiss and all of a sudden his tongue slipped into my mouth, connecting with mine. His hands were still on my face, but they started to slide down my body, they stopped at my thighs, were he picked me up guiding my legs around his waist. My arms moved around his neck bringing him in closer to me. We were stuck together like a peanut butter sandwich. My tongue and his continued to move in between our mouths. All of a sudden, Zach removed his hands from my thighs placing my feet back on the ground. I looked around and was pleased to see that no one was starring, and that the beach had gotten quit empty. My eyes fell back on Zach’s face, he was staring at me and cupped my face, “I’ve always wanted to do that,” he said, his lips curling into a smile.
Zach and I lay on our towels side by side, starring up at the sky. After we kissed I walked away, I didn’t know what to say or do. I’ve always wanted to kiss him as well, but that still didn’t mean he liked me the way I liked him? I liked him?
“Alex, can you say something.” I turned onto my side,” I’ve always wanted to kiss you too but I don’t think that kiss meant the same for both of us.”
“Alex, I know we have only chilled for two days, but we grew up together and spent every day together when were younger and I can say you haven’t changed much, in a good way.” Zach said.
“What are you trying to get at?” I asked.
“I’ve always liked you, and I can’t believe I was stupid enough to wait this long to act on those feelings.”
My heart started to beat faster, what was he saying? “I want to try being in a relationship, because we defiantly have something going on that’s more than friends.”
I wanted a relationship, even though I never considered myself to be a relationship kind of person. I just felt like this was all going too fast.
“Uhh, I don’t know how to say this but, I really like you I’ve always liked you, it’s just I want to take things slow, and uh- not put a title on it…for now.”
I didn’t know what I expected him to say, but I was pleased that he took it well, “whatever you want.” He replied.
