April 1978

Nikki sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. The smell of food cooking had woken him up. Getting dressed, he walked out of his bedroom to find Janie, furiously scrambling eggs.

Her long and wavy ash brown hair was loosely pulled back in a ponytail. She was wearing a white tee shirt with Queen's logo on it, a pair of cut off denim shorts, and red Chuck Taylors.

"Morning." Nikki said, brushing against her as he opened the fridge.

"Morning!" Janie answered, her blue eyes sparkling as she greeted him.

"You seem chipper." he commented, plopping himself down on the couch.

"I feel chipper," she responded, "that's the best night of sleep I've had in awhile."

Nikki let out a laugh as he took a sip of his beer.

"Do you like bacon in your eggs?" Janie asked.

"I don't have any bacon." Nikki replied.

"I bought some at the convenience store around the corner after I woke up this morning, can't have eggs without bacon." she shrugged.

"Oh, yeah sure." he said, surprised.

Janie brought over two plates with toast, bacon and eggs that were still steaming.

"Holy shit," Nikki's eyes widened, "this is a fucking spread!"

He graciously took a plate from her and dug in. He hadn't eaten this well in a long time. His diet had consisted of cereal and peanut butter sandwiches for longer than he could remember at this point.

"Thanks," he said in between mouthfuls, "you didn't have to go and buy this stuff." he motioned to his already half eaten plate.

Janie smiled as she took a bite of her eggs, "Just a little thanks for letting me crash here last night. I appreciate it."

They sat in silence as they devoured their breakfast.

"You want anymore?" Janie asked, "I made a shit ton of eggs."

"Hell yeah." Nikki nodded.

Janie grabbed their plates, heading back towards the kitchen.

"By the way, nice shirt." Nikki called after her.

She smiled, looking down at it, "You like Queen?"

"They're one of my favorites." he responded, trying to sound nonchalant.

He didn't want her to know how big of a music nerd he was. At least not yet.

"Mine too," she grinned, "my sister took me to see them at The Forum when they were here a few months back. God it was magical."

"Lucky," Nikki responded, a hint of jealousy in his voice, "I've never seen them live."

"Shit, the next time they're here you gotta go. It's a fucking trip I'm telling you."

Nikki watched in amusement as Janie passionately described the night of the show. Her stormy blue eyes glowed vividly as she spoke of Freddie Mercury, prancing about on stage. The mesmerizing way Brian May played his guitar, captivating the crowd. The sheer power of Roger Taylor's drumming, and John Deacon, though a bit more subdued than the rest of the band, holding everything together with his tight, rhythmic bass lines.

"I know it sounds strange but, it was like being in this hypnotic trance. It was like...any problems I had were forgotten. I mean, at least for a little while." Janie finished.
