Shawn's POV

"The first time I ever saw you was at Jack's house. You didn't know anyone and you were really nervous. At first, that is. Soon enough you were dancing with everyone else and laughing and singing."

I paused for a moment, choosing my words carefully.

"You are such a strong person. After everything you've been through, you never fail to keep believing it will be okay. You make people smile and laugh. You're gorgeous. And I know you are with Sam and that you love him, but I love you too. I understand if you can't feel the same for me, I just needed to tell you."

She looked away from me for a moment. She brushed away a tear on her cheek and faced me again.

"Shawn, I-" she tried to say. "I just can't. I love you so much. But I can't love you the way you love me. You're one of my best friends. But, I love Sam. I'm sorry."

Silence...

"I'm so stupid! Why did I have to do this? I'm so fucking stupid!" I growled and kicked over a nearby potted plant. It shattered with no trouble.

"Shawn, calm down," Hazel pleaded, grabbing my arm. I shook her off.

"Whatever," I huffed as I sunk to the ground with my back against the bench. I had my head in between my knees.

"Shawn, please. I'll call Matt to come get us." She sat down next to me and tried to pull me into a hug. I wanted to resist but I was just weak. I buried my head into her shoulder.

After a while she let me go and pulled out her phone. I stood up and wiped at my face. I was sure my eyes were puffy but otherwise I was fine.

I paced back and forth, in and out of the arch, waiting for Matt. Hazel sat on the bench texting someone the whole time.

After 15 minutes he got there. By then I looked fine.

"Hey guys," Matt yelled from down the path. I grabbed my guitar and we started walking back.
