Hazel's POV

I swung open the front door just in time to watch Sam drive away. I turned back into Jack's house and felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist.

"I'm sorry, Hazel. I shouldn't have kissed you. I don't want this to ruin our friendship or my friendship with Sam."

"It's fine," I replied, turning to face him. He lowered his forehead so it rested against mine. I started wondering about Sam. "He shouldn't be driving angry. He could hurt someone."

"I'm sure he'll be fine."

"I don't know. I'm gonna go after him. I'll be back." Jack loosened his grip and I wiggled out of his arms. Once I grabbed my keys, I walked across the yards to my car. "I'll call you once I find him."

"Alright."

I pulled out of my driveway and drove onto the main road. I tried to think of anywhere he could be. He mostly hung out at the mall, the park, and the football field. Once it was narrowed down to those three, I set off.

I got to the mall to find it was closed. The second I left the parking lot the determination was back in me and set for the park.

I pulled onto the highway and it was busier than usual. I had never driven on the highway at rush hour and I wasn't doing too great.

A pair of bright lights were coming right for the side of my car at a crazy speed and I couldn't do anything to stop it. Even if I had tried, it was too fast.

Then everything went black.

Jack J's POV

I walked into my house after my date and turned on my phone. I had 10 missed calls from two minutes ago. 7 from Jack, 2 from Sam, and 1 from Hazel's Mom. I immediately call Jack back.

"Jack. What's wrong?" All I heard on the other end was staggered breathing and sniffles. Jack was crying. "What happened?"

"Hazel...she is hurt really bad." He started crying again.

"I'll be right there!" I hung up and grabbed my keys. I drove as fast as I could to the hospital.

Once I got there I threw open the door and ran to the desk.

"I need to see Hazel Marone." A woman led me to a waiting room on the 3rd floor and I immediately saw Jack sitting next Hazel's mom and sister. He looked up and ran over to me.

"They haven't told us anything, but I overheard them saying it isn't looking good." He put his face in his hands for a moment then looked back up.

"What happened?"

"Um, a semi hit her. Someone said she ran a red light, but I don't believe that. She was always such a cautious driver."

I couldn't believe that she was actually seriously hurt.

After an hour of waiting around and worrying, a doctor and two nurses walked out. The doctor and the older nurse had serious expressions but the younger nurse had a sorrowful look when we met eyes. Then, I knew. They didn't have to say anything.

Hazel was dead.
